I
t is safe to say now that the 2020
Monster Energy AMA Supercross
Championship is Eli Tomac's to
lose. After a rare midweek Wednes-
day race followed a few days later by a
Sunday afternoon race at Rice-Eccles
Stadium in Utah, the Monster Energy
Kawasaki Team rider has opened up
a commanding lead in the 450SX-
class championship. A second-place
finish on Wednesday followed by his
seventh win of the 2020 champion-
ship on Sunday sees Tomac carry
a 26-point lead into the next race
(another Wednesday-night round) over
his nearest rival Ken Roczen (Honda
HRC) with just four races left on the
calendar.
While Tomac has been doing what
he needs to do to capture his first ca-
reer 450SX title, he is getting big-time
help from his nearest rival Roczen,
who revealed between Wednesday's
race and Sunday's race that he's been
suffering through a respiratory issue
since late last year and has been hav-
ing a difficult time breathing, which no
doubt has been exasperated by the
higher-than-usual elevation of Rice-
Eccles Stadium (4000-plus feet). This
