(Results on page 26) > (.J The Many Sides" Of Malcolm Davis "It'll he interesting to see a real saloon while I'm here. Might give me some more ideas for the discotheque What?" Malcolm Davis, current 250cc British Motocross Champion, 1968's 250cc Champion, talking about anything but how good a motocrosser he is had been telling us abou this interests and businesses in England. In his hometown of Gloucester, Malcolm own.s a discotheque called the Library, a 30 room motel and a retail motorcycle store. At 25 he is obviously well-poised for the dreaded later life. Even allowing for the fact be is a very astute business man, it is incredible that he can find time to fit in motocross commitments for AJS yet he does and tackles this job with the total dedication and business-like approach as the other ventures. And, consequently, he has been British 250cc Champion twice. He started riding in 1963 and in two seasons signed on for Greeves for 1965 and 1966, changed to Bultaco for 1967 and then to AJS for 1968. He won the title for AJS in his first season with them and then went through 'a pretty stormy relationship with them in 1969, and th us allowing Greeves works rider Bryan "Wild" Wade to ace the title from him. The trouble probably was'.caused by both AJS's and Malcom's quest for perfection and when things were not go~g too well due to various pro.blems.. tempers flared somewhat but now things are swinging the Davis way with a convincing seven out of ten in the British Championship rounds! Next year quiet-spoken professional racer, Malcolm Davis, will be out chasing the· clusive iron -man Joel Robert's world title so the race at Carlsbad will be a good testing ground for the next season's clashes.
