RICKMAN Rich Thorwaldson was first American in the Ascot InterAm on October 30th. It was the best American finish ever against the Europeans. HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA., Nov. 8, 1970 - With the end of the regular season drawing near, a huge contingent of TT riders made the scene today, providing action that was fast and furious. The 100 Expert was run in streaks of lime green, as D. Briggs (Kaw), Doug Westly (Kaw) and John Rice (I<\aw) really hauled. Briggs got the win in a hard fought battle. The lead changed hands on every lap in the 125 Expert, as Bob Burg (Yam) and Bob Sanders (Yam) put on one of the great shows of the day, Burg made it to the checkered first, a bike length ahead of Sanders, with third going to B. Butt (Yam). . Open warfare was the action in the 250 Expert. Chet Burt (Bul, M. Hagoskl (Ossa),- and John Sperry (Ossa), had the large crowd on their feet as the battle went into the last lap. Burt picked up the win, Hagoski went for second and Sperry got third. , The Open Expert took its toll of riders as only four of the starting field made it to the finish. M. Carver (BSA) out-distanced Ron Powell (Tri). with Rick Durkee (Tri) doing his th ing to hang on for number three. (Report by Gary Smythe.) (Results on page 32.) GARDENA, CALIF., Nov. 6, 1970 - The Rickman Team of Thorwaldson and Wright took a double win at the Ascot Friday night motocross. The SOOcc and 250cc Expert classes. were combined, and Rich Thorwaldson took all three motos with room to spare. Dave Perry was having a good night on his 250cc Ossa, taking second to Rich in the first two motos. On the last moto he got a flat tire in the fourth lap while running second but he wouldn't give up; so after a wild lap in which he tried to hold a good spot, he went. into the pond after a side-ways landing off the jump. Still not giving up, he pushed the machine across the finish line to take enough points to take top 250cc Expert. . The 125cc Expert go was a battle between Jeff Wright and Allen Lund. Lund, Sachs mounted, won the first moto by a foot over Wright. Then Wright took the second moto with Lund second, so now they were tied. Wri9ht was able to take the last moto on his E.C. Birt-tuned Rickman and win the class. The hard-charging Lund took a well-earned 5e!7P.w-)j:>r.~~ 9J? ~,l,;) J,,,'II II ""h:m L- [( j."u'''' J ~(I1 ~ ,. : 1st ~ w Z w oJ U ~ U BOX 2m AlHAMBRA, CAlifORNIA 91B03 A newtydown that saves time and really works.
