g iTommy Horton Splits :Wins With Chris Smith w z W By Eddie Smith > SOlITH GATE, CALIF., Nov. 6, 1970 Chief resident of ·the Trojan Speedway Winner's Cn-cle, Tommy Horton, had to share part of the winning glory tonight with Chris Smith. Each picked up two wins. Horton, a K & W Products sponsored Kawasaki rider, restricted his riding to the 100 and 125cc classes in both IT and Flat Track while Smith only rode the 250 division in both, but won both. Boh Sanders dueled off Horton in the 10il IT Main and eventually won. Bob Byers dumped his Honda in the fInt tum of the race with the bike landing on top of him, marking the third time during the night that he had gone down. Positions were reversed, somewhat in the 125 IT 'as Horton held the lead position while Sanders could only manage a third, biting the dust created by Bruce Nordstrom. 'Nordstrom had held the lead into the second lap but Horton caught and passed. ...J U U Smith made it to the 250 IT Main and jumped his Montesa into the lead at the start and was challenged by Steve Mudd. The pair battled it out but Mudd tmally had to hang on for second. The same was true in the 250 Flat Track Main in which Smith again took the lead at the start and was never headed. This tilne, it was Bernie Hodge providing the chase, but he too had to settle for runner-up spot. In the 10l} Flat Track Main Horton and Sanders resumed their battle and in reverse of the 100 IT results, this time Horton won. Horton again held one position on Sanders in the 125 Flat Track Main but it was only good enough for second as Bruce Nordstrom nosed his Yamaha into the lead off the line and held the front spot for the duration of the race. On Dec. II, trophies will be awarded to the top ten "in each class. On Thanksgiving Day, there will be a special set of races here and the 100 pre-entry signups have already fIlled the card for this wild one.
