SCHWIMMER QUIETLY TAKES PERRIS t N '" o .... By Elaine Jones PERRIS, CALIF., Oct. 31, 1970 - With Frankenstein acting as official starter and keeping the Halloween mood, Larry Schwimmer proved his silencer equipped win wasn't just lucK as he picked up another five bucks and a trophy in the 125cc Novice class. Mark Reichert and Roy Addington were second and third. The $5.00 bonus does include four stroke bikes in the hope that someone will take the incentive to try and come up with a device that will do the job and not ruin the machine. Mike Laney who makes the trip from Palmdale every week is becoming one of the bright lights of the 100cc Novice class and does it aboard a Hodaka. He took the First Division of loocc Novices over Steve Robb and Dennis Turner. Mike Byars, another Hodaka rider, took the Second Division topping Danny Horton and Eugene Hanson. Vic Hensley who is looking a Perris Amateur rating right in the eye captured the Third Division of 100cc Novices over Mike DuBont and Jeff McCormick. In the 100-125cc Amateur-Expert class Wayne Whisenant got his baby Greenstreak out in front and kept it there as he outran Doug Mason and Paul Lambert both on super fast 125cc Yamahas. This class is becoming one of the most hotly contested with a lot of Novice riders moving in and doing well. Jim McKay who hadn't been out all season until last week picked up all the marbles in the 175cc·250cc Novice class. Mike Horton who had made his mark in the class was regulated to second with Everett Harvey third. Bruce Prior didn't take a back seat to anyone and came up with the win in the 350cc Novice class. Ken Miller and Sid Whitson were second and third. Mark Bailey moved back up to the big bike ranks and proved he hasn't lost his touch as he won the Novice Moto class. Second place Skip Gallagher had a lot to make up for when he unloaded in the first moto coming down the back side. J irn Hayes was third. George Gillespie took home the gold in the Amateur-Expert Moto with no hassle from anyone. Bill Goff was second and Larry Stapleton third. Bob Rudd out for the first time on a 650cc Yamaha had some very colorful comments about them but unfortunately none of them --are printable. During intermission the spectators were entertained with an exhibition of . stunt riding by riders and lronman Irons. Next week the Mini-bikers will compete between six and seven o'clock to leave more time for the bigger bikes.
