Greene - SACHS SOUTH GATE,CALlF., Oct. 17,1970 - It never seems to be very difficult to find Guy Erickson on his mini bike at Trojan Speedway races on Saturday afternoon ...he's usually the one out in front with the number 306 on his black and white mini. Today was no exception as he won the six-to-eight year old class limited to a maximum three horsepower. Kirk and Keith Ward were also on hand and diced all the way in the 9-11 class with Kirk the eventual winner after being handicapped 50 feet. Report and photo by Dennis Greene. Jeff Wright on a Rickman took the 125 Expert gold for the second time in a row. Messer and Rich Thorwaldson (Rickman) really put on a show in the 500 Expert go. Rich won the first mota with Messer.close behind pushing hard. In the second mota Rich held it too long in his famous charge in the first turn on the outside and did a real hard get-off trying to take the lead from Messer. Rich remounted in last place and worked' his way up to third. Rich had to win the last mota to take the overall win. Messer led it into the first turn,-and Rich pushed hard in each tum after that, but Messer didn't make a mistake and won the mota and the race. Messer also won the 250 Expert class, on another Maico. Jim West was second on a A.J.S. Jeff Wright (Rickman), pictured, took the lead in the first 125 Expert mota, but was sleeping on the north sweeper on the last lap, and the hard charging Bob Hosford, an up and coming track rider passed him on the outside. Wright got with it on the next two motos winning them both. and taking the class win. Hosford was able to salvage a second overall on his Yamaha. (Results on page 20.)
