M C s Out, Action 'In'-With HBCP u o ~ w Z W ...J U >- U By Gary Schmythe HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIF., Oct. II, 1970 - With a very large turnout of riders and an equally large crowd H.R.A. got their first meeting of October under way. It was one of those near perfect days for racing, very little wind, bright blue sky, and temperature in the mid-70's. The race track seefTIed to be in very good condition and fast. "Gentle Ben" dropped the starter's flag at 11 :45 to get the day's action under way. There were some Iwtly. contested heats run. You could have covered the front runners, D. Briggs and Doug Westly in the 100 Novice with a good-sized beach towel. Both were Kawasaki mounted. Tom White showed up on a brand new Bultaco 250. It was tuned to the teeth, really strong and had a good gutty sound. White got off the line in fme fashion and seemed to make his groove as he went on to take top honors in the 250 Expert class. Bryan Farnsworth, not to be denied his share of the day's honors, pulled out all stops and picked up three wins in the Open-Expert heats. When the starter's flag dropped on the Open-Expert Main, Ike Mizen (Tri) grabbed the lead while team-mate T. Moriarty(Tri) took over the second spot. .Bryan Farnsworth got boxed in and was running well hack in the pack (seventh), but by the time the checkered flag was waved, Farnsworth was running third ~ . - .' ...... .
