NICHELSEN MASTERS SCTA TRIALS ~ w Z W ...J U > U By Ron Szilagyi SADDLEBACK PARK, IRVINE, CALIF., Sept. 13, 1970 - Every imaginable type of crossing was thrown into 20 traps of the S.C.T.A.'s trials. Each trap featured a super obstacle in addition to being tight and demanding and powdery. The Amateurs, Experts and Masters all covered the same twenty sections three times each. The traps were neatly located off the roads crisscrossing the park to form a five-mile circle. . Trials is very demanding of a motorcycle but even more so of the rider. It is not a little old lady trail bike sport, but even so 125 riders flocked to the cloud covered event. The wind blew and the temperature .was shirt sleeve. They saw Bob Nichelson, Bultaco mounted Master, lose only 16 points to win the Master's class. Bob Grove with 22 points just barely beat Rich Bledsoe who accumulated 24. In the Expert class, Vic Conaway won with 33 points. Again second and third were close: Dale Ranta lost 42 while Tim Hickox lost 43. (Results on page 24)
