They put on a race there and the motes clicked off with hardly a glich. But although they did a good job, one mistake was made that will probably net them a lost of nasty letters: They put too few people in each division so that there were five divisions of 125cc and three divisions of 250cc Novices. They were obviously going to run out of time so in the end they held only two motos and then a. main event. This doesn't jive with District 37 motocross rules and a lot of riders were unhappy. A few riders were unhappy enough to demand their money back which lead to one participant being severely beaten by 10 or 12 Prospectors. The beating was finally halted by a Sheriff's deputy, but not before the rider sustained many injuries. Where was the District 37 referee? The Amateur/Expert events were all hotly contested, including an outstanding _ duel in the 125cc class between Larry Shoemaker and John Rice. Shoemaker ended up with the victory, while Bob Messer took the 250cc class and Bill Payne the 500cc go. Results on page 24.
