ROBERTS By Dick Wright ADELANTO, CALIF., August 16, 1970 - European Scrambles usually brings out a lot of riders, because the races are fairly shon (about 45 minutes long), consisting of about six laps on a six-mile course. It's something like a desert Grand Prix; you race in your own'c1ass in separate races and you can do your thing in front of a good crowd. Also in this type of race it is easy to see who the winners are in each class, without waiting for the official results. Even the Novices can be assured of getting proper credit for their performance. Another good feature is that it is possible to ride more than one race by having different machines. Today's course was fast and about four miles long, somewhat shorter than usual. It consisted of a choppy starting area, fairly flat, that extended a couple of miles. After a turn around a truck there was a short sandwash, followed by a powder trail that led to a left turn and Winner, J.N. Roberts, comes through the pit.
