MOORPARK, CALIF. Aug. 16, 1970 - It wal DeSoto and CZ's day at Bay Mare this Sunday, as young Ron DeSoto (pictured leading above) ripped off , victory in the 250cc Sr. go, while older brother John ended in a tie with Jim West for overall honors in the SOOCc class. The day started, however, looking for all the world like a benefit for Tim Hari, as the Sachs-Montesa hotshoe grabbed relatively easy first moto victories in the 125cc and 2SOcc Senior clashes. But, while leading the 500cc Senior go, Hart became entangled with the older DeSoto, high siding a berm, and putting himself out of the race and his big bike out for the day. Hart came back to win the 2nd and final 125cc moto, but crashed again in the 250cc go, whi Ie DeSoto Ron, that is - went on to win the event, which coupled with his first moto second place gave him the overall nod. (Results on page 22) ,GARDENA, CAL., Aug. 16, 1970 - Torrance's Jim Wilson rode -a pair of Greeves Gri flons to again domi nate 250 and SOO Expert classes at the CMC's Sunday offering at Ascot Park. Usual competitor Rich Thorwaldsen was sidelined by cable ailments, while Tim Hart was away for the nonce. A light field of riders played before a sparse audience on a lengthier course. 250 and 125 Juniors rode four motos, with Bob Brooks and L. Merritt winning their divisions. B Hosford won the 100 Jr. class and B. Parkining outlasted the 500 Jr's. Bryar Holcomb Yion the non-Wilson entered 125 Expert class in addition to placing third in the 2SO Experts. Tom Rapp looked strong with a 'second in the 2SO Experts. Intermediates John Siebrandt and Dick Macormic placed wei" in their new classifications. (Results on page 22). This mind-bender was dreamed up by the promoter. It works like this: One rider takes two laps, stops on a marked square on the back chute and runs across the infield to his partner. Partner takes a ribbon from fi rst team member and takes the next two laps. Woods and Nutter put on the most exciting show as they swapped the' lead back and forth whi Ie heading for the checkered flag. Woods took the inside arld was able to give hi s partner a good lead.
