SANTA ROSA, CALIF. July 26, 1970Second year Expert Jim Rice and hts
BSA 650 twin led all but two of the
twenty laps to score his tifth victory on
the National circuit this season by taking
the third running of the Santa RosamUe.
With this win, Rice is now only two
victories away from a tie tor most
national wins in a single season.
Rice led the opening lap but gave way
to Triumph mounted Larry Palmgren on
the second and third rounds. Tom Rockwood, running a close third, dropped out
with ignition troubles at the end of tile
tourth lap, moving Eddie Mulder uP
a notch.

Rice got the lead back on the tourth
round and was never again to lose the
tront spot. The race the rest of the way
was tor second place between Jimmy
adorn, Larry & Chuck Palmgren and
Gene Romero.
The older Palmgren, Larry, was in
and out of second through lap eleven,
sharing it malnly with Odom. Romero
came on strong to hold runner-uP otfand
on trom laps 12 through 19.
Chuck Palmgren was inandoutoftblrd
place trom lap twelve unW the t1nallap.
The last two laps were thrWers with
Romero starting the final round in
second, only to be passed by both Odom
and Chuck Palmgren for second and tblrd
to take the flag.
Rice stated after the race that the dry
narrow groove was much like the San
Jose halt mUe that brought him another
win earlier this month. He was more than
right as adorn and Palmgrenaisot1n1shed second and third in that event as well,
giving the Santa Rosa racethe identical
1-2-3 t1nlsh.
Early in the day Rice had posted the
tifth best time trial with Harley rlder,
Mark Brelsford taldng fast time honors.

AMA POINT STANDINGS
The AMA altered the point standings
column for purses amounting between
$'7000 and $7999 so another major revision wlll occur this week. However, the
standings listed below are based upon
the old system. Next week, Cycle News
w1ll give the revised point s'tandings and
the exact rullng by the AMA upon how
many points wlll be awarded to the first
dozen tlnlshers in a race of tb1s purse.
