Mert was back on Friday after capturing the national TT and was out to pick up the bucks he lost the week before due to engine problems. Rookie Ken Pressgove looks, rides and acts like the best to come from the East since the early 60's and Bart Markel-days. Ken and his BSA took a second behind La wwtll In the heat race but ran well ahead of Dave Smith and Don Castro. The Topeka Kansas, rider likes the Ascot high groove and makes it work whether the rest of the riders like it or not. The Trophy Dash was next for Lawwill. Tom Rockwood blew a spark plug right out of the engine In the semi and was not ready to go. Amateur Lynn Holloway' and his Mellow Velo moved In as the alternate and also the fastest qual1tying Amateur of the night. Paul Conserriere (Nor), the second fastest time trial rider, pushed LawwW Early leader Dewayne, 44x, Keeter gets passed on the outside by the evening's big winner, Mert Lawwi II. i to the win with Holloway topplng Sammy Tanner for tblrd. Ascot w1ll again look like a national tb1s Friday with all of the locals and tile national riders on band for a weekly half mlle On Saturday night they head north to Tulare for a national half mUe. This gives the riders once again back to bBck races and purses ttlat will rival any other weekend this season. Regular season prices will continue to prevail at Ascot for all Friday night shows.
