~ ~ ~.~.~ ~ ~ . ••• ~ Scally Puis On Show _~ For Big Hayward Win __alP•..~ , By BUl Spencer Joey Jacobitti was creeping at the line HA YWARD, CALIF., July 25, 1970 Hayward turned out to be the continuing and the starter gave him the signal to chapter in the series of destruction get back but he kept creeping and the derbys for the weekend, for whatever starter than inexpucably threw the flag *************************************.**~the circumstances, the results were which left most of the riders stunned, By the time they got moving, Joey had spectacular. A normal sUde or hlghside ,would turn into a debacle, but amazingly left town on an earlier express. agaln, only one rider had to be taken From there on the race was great with Joey doing quite well and the field away. The best show of the night went to Bob strung out. It was a 35OCc, 500cc and 650cc combined attair and none of the Scally who really put It on the 650 Experts with Tulare type slides through smaller bikes could keep uP. Scally was the spectator corner. Bob received a just still sliding the turns while Jim Foley round of applause at the checkered and was trying not to be last. Foley isn't the kind who creeps or was picked to easily win the heat. That's cheats so he was left out of the running the one that really counts and as late . in this one but the 250 Expert was a would have it the starter blew It. Honda rider hangs it all out. A.nders.on Gets Lodi Victory By Bill Lam, CALIF. July 24,1970- Stan Anderson batUed the odds and spills to win the 250 Expert Main, tonight. The Modesto speedster was the first man into the first corner and it looked as If he would stay there until one rider went down and Ray Hoff put on a great display of river bank motocross riding to miss rider and bike. A slight altercation ensued but was quickly quelled and a restart initiated. Once again it was Anderson on top and he never relinquished the lead. BUl BUdde held second until Mike Renslow, hard at work coming through the pack, got by to take second with Budde third. John Green finished fourth to get some points on the number one man Jim Foley who bailed. 'Ibis would have helPed·if Green could capitalize in the 500 Main. Foley did it well from start to f1n1sh in the 500 Main though and Green didn't trophy as he got into a tangle at the tree turn. The win was only worth as many points as Green's fourth so the fight continues at Hayward. In the 650 Expert feature Rick otto ducked under Bob Scally to take the win Spencer as Scally appeared to have braking problems and kept overshooting the tight corners. Bud Smith held off Larry Lane for third. The rest of the night ran rampant with destruction derby races. The first debacle was in the 250 Novice Main in which five riders went down. One of the bikes was catapaulted some 15 feet in the air and almost flew over the fence. Only one rider was hurt, which was amazing. The 500 Amateur was another goodie with four riders down. Dick Steinke hit the bank head on and has some sore ribs to prove it. Brian 0' Hagen wound uP first after having run over Larry Frey. Vic Sloane was second and he was the other rider that fell. Steinke had It slight easier in the 250 Amateur Main with another one of his fantastic flying starts but could only manage- a third at the checkered with K1m Jorgensen winning It and John Emerson second. Rudy Jacobs made It two Friday nights in a row in the 650 Novice c1B.ss, which is dltferent for him. (Results on page 22) Just some 01 the close action at Hayward. different story. Foley led off with John Green second. 'Ibis is also the way the points are so Green was charging. It was to no avail, though, as Foley was ready for a win and got it. With Green not making the big bore Main, Foley had a chanCe to make some extra but that didn't workout. Randy Searl waited unW the lastpossible moment to make his move and when he did It was a goody. Jim Moyles had led the 250 Novice 'A' Main all the way until the last turn when Randy got It by and won. Mike Sarandrla was left out of the 650 Amateur Main restart. He was receiving help in flxlng his bent machine after one of those destruction derbys, when the flag went uP without him. Referee Woods wisely called another restart to include him. Dan Cosio put on a fine shoe In the 200 Amateur Main but couldn't keep It uP right for the checkered. (Results ?n page 22) * « * * *...
