'-l :c: ~ U ;:.., U The sixth and final race of the Spring Series saw the $200 top prize going to Rex Staten on his Ossa, with JIm Hoover sneaking In on the last day to win the second place minibike donated by Don & Ray's Motorcycle Shop In Lancaster. Gary Whitehead had 2nd place through Racing at Deadman's Point is a family affair. most of the series, b!lt problems on the last race day dropped him to third overall. In the 100 class, Div. I, usual winner Jim Hoover came uP with 3 good motos for 1st place on his Hodaka powered Sachs. Frank Wfisford Sr. worked uP from a couPle of slow starts to get 2nd overall on his Hodaka. The second division of the 100 class saw Craig Lee put 3 beautiful races together on his Yamaha powered Van Tech for 1st overall, while G. Bryan on his Hodaka won the third division. The 125 class was completely dominated by Yamaha. Dave Coulter has forsaken his Bultaco for a new Yamaha and he rode to a decisive victory In division I, He was chased home by Bill Nowak who brought out his team, with brother Ted getting fourth and Larry Bird sUpping In between for third. The second division of 125's had T. Larson coming uP with the win, with D. _Meyer, G. Waldrow and J. Tucker following him In that order, all were mounted on Yamahas. In the third division of 125's, J. De Windt rode consistently to garner first overall, with D. Lawson bustling bustling in for second. The first division of 250' s displayed some·of the closest racing of the day, with Jim Hoover, Rex Staten, and Garq Whitehead spending most of their tI}Jle no more than ten feet apart, all going full bore around the track, over the jumps and througb the mudbole. JIm and Gary each had their problems and Rex managed to win lst overall with Jim Hoover getting borne second on his new CZ. Division 2 of the 250's was also woo by an Ossa with C. Smith aboard. SecODd went to M. Buck OIl his Yamaha with T. Jay getting third aboard his CZ . . The third divisiOll went to C Z mounted D. Dickens with L. Moors, Jr. getting. second on hisSuzuId. M. Samuelson managed third on his Yamahaandfourthwent to Matco mounted J. Smith. The fourth division at 250's saw a lot af-.. place swapping and all the leaders having problems at one time or other. Chuck Bybee had 3 good motos for first overall on his Matco, with Dave Brown getting second on his Yamaha. Layman Gattis on bls Husky managed a win In the 500 Jr. class, wIren the apparent winner was found' to be riding a 250. Second place went to Husky mounted R. Clawson with third to F. Eyre on his CZ and BuItaco mounted M. Cavorett picking uP fourth. The 250 Sr. Class was won by J. Pavich on his CZ with Larry Mulock' managing second OIl his CZ. Third went to Ossa mounted Geroge Spellman. The 500 Sr. w!n was picked up by Ray Mc Carty on his Husky. Promoter, Bob Dresslar works hard to put on good races at Deadmans Point with only $3 entry and super nice trophies going to 25% of the entrants. The next race will be on August 2, so anyone wantIng to try their Iland at a competitive but sate track, come on out to Apple Valley. Further details are available in the Calendar section.
