July 12, 1970 - The Inter-Am at Saddleback Park on July 4 must have really turned on a lot of mo~ crossers, because SundaY's CMC event at Carlsbad was another whopper. The 250cc Jr. class had to be broken lnto four d1v1s1ons and the Expert classes, which had been quite sparse, had a good turn out. There were 39 races In all but the efficient CMC crew dropped the checkered flag for the last time at 5:45 p.m. Jim W11son took all six motos In the 250cc Expert and 500cc Expert classes and was never headed on his Greeves. Tom Rapp played follow the leader with W1ls0n In the first leg and t1nished second. but In the second leg Tom was first to the corner from the start and then killed his fire ilnd had to come uP from dead last to a fourth place f1n1sh. B1ll Sllverthorn had his problems all day, and the main one was staying uPright. In the final leg Bill had a good start (first one In the 250 class) but crashed and blew It all. Bill Urban was out for his third ride on hts new Maico and looking good. He moved lnto second as Sllverthorn parted company with his Tbere is abetterpipe. I ~ Shedd Husky, but the CMC's number 1 plate holder Tom Rapp zapped him andf1n1shed second. Jim WUson zoomed lnto the lead In the first 500cc Expert moto with BUlS1lverthorn In hot pursuit. The pair pulled way lnto the lead but Bill lost ground all the way from W1ls0n so he never made a bld for the front slot. The second mota looked l1ke 1t might be a rerun of the first, but Bill crashed on the first laP. After his fall he rode l1ke the Dev1l Himself was after him, and two laps later he was back In second place.. The flnalleg was a repeat of the first, with WUson taking the win and appearing not to even be In a hurry after the first lap. Jeff Jackson picked off the win In the 250cc Jr. class division three to retain his lead In the Golden State Series.
