WILLOW CREEK, CALIF., July 3,1970It can't be said that Harvey Crews gives UP and is not determined on the track, espec1ally after the show he put on 10night 10 the TT races sponsored by the Trloity Trailsters. The EllPert racer who must have a "We Try Harder" button hidden somewhere in hts pockets, experienced no less than four crashes but sl1ll went on to w1n the 250cc Expert class and the 650cc Trophy Dash. Harvey wasn't the whole show, however, as a large turnout of riders from ail over Callforn1a and Oregon arrived to stiffen up the action, among them were Phll Ray and Mike Renslow from Los Gatos. Renslow, who ts rated fifth 10 District 36, has only been riding for the past three years. He began on a Honda 90, uPon which he was Practically unnoticed for two years. In the 250cc Expert heat, another ot those cha1n-reaction colltslons occurred, nearly identical to the one 10 the Main Event last time most of these riders were here. Ed NeUson, battling to hang on to hts lead, went down. Next, Harvey Crews went down, followed very quickly by Gordon Kuhnle, who was taWng Crews closely. Nobody was hurt, although the race was halted. Gene Smith, president of the Trinity Trailsters, walked away with the first 10 the lOOcc Novice Main leading second place Mark Lagarra of Tr101ty Center . by half a lap at the end. F Uteen bikes were lined uP for the start of the 250cc Novice event, but bi!fore the end of the first lap, Mike Benson had grabbed the lead with Ossa mounted Jay Stradley right behind him and that's the way it was l1ll the end. Gerry Matson (Bul) worked hts way out of the pack to take third. One of the top contenders 10 the 250cc Amateur class, Gary Cooper, after w1nn1ng the heat by half a lap, was centerpunched by Dave Cherry during the first lap of the Main and had to retire with broken handlebars. Cherry continued on to take second while first place went to Gary Thompson. Gary has won tilts event at the last three races.
