By Mike Capallte COSTA MESA, July 10 - Sonny Nutter and Larry Shaw were the heroes of the ntgbt as they took home the top wins I.D this week's speedway program. Larry, who by virtue of his past performances has been given a 20-yard haDd1cap, buUt looks Ute the off1cials may have to reevaluate this footage as this boy Is gettI.Dg hotter every week. He pUt it on his fellow riders to take the wID I.D his heat, h1s semi and the maID for a clean sweep for the evening, not bad for a t1rst year speedway riderl In the Main Event, Larry had tile best breatb1ng down his neck, but he kept his cool to brl.Dg in- the wID as Bill Cody d1d a fantastic job f1 workI.Dg his way up from a 60-yard hand1cap to take over second place ahead of stu Morley and Steve Bast. Sonny Is back to his consistent wI.Dntng style a.ga1n much to the pleasure of his many fans as could be evidenced by the cheers he received as he took this Main Event win. The match race this week was between Mike Bast of the Bast Brothers We1d1ng Team and Stu Marley. With the sport of speedway racing growing by leaps and bounds, the evening was spiced with the addition of a Division 3 heat race to give some of the new riders some experience. J1m Foxe used the advantage of many spills to take over a big lead and hold it ahead of Fred Ortiz and Brian Crawiord for the wID. The Second Division Main went to Don Cullum who Is going pretty good lately and it looks like he won't be a d1v1sion 2 rider much longer as he looked real good keepl.Dg his lead over Butch Fishburn and Jim Doran to wID the event as well as the helmet awarded by Champion Helmets.
