San Jose National
(Continued [rom page 3)
Terry Dorsch put 011 a real drive to
come trom back In the pack to grab th1rd
place on the last lap.
John Hateley led trom start to f1n1sh
to take the second heat with Rex Beauchamp, from Michigan and winner of
last week's Amateur MaiD at Columbus,
taking second. Dave BoleDa, a local
favorite, showed real style In taIdng
th1rd spot by dolog some dlfflcult passlog on a track that 15 a bard one to
pass on.
Tbi! Expert Semi-MaiD was taken by
Don Castro but the real race was for
second. Gene Romero and Dick Mannput
on a wheel to wheel duel that bad the
crowd on their feet. Romero came
through to get second and Mann was
third. In the first turn Dewayne Keeter
fell off. Keith Mashburn came sl1d1ng
through the turn right behind and hit
Dewayne before he bad a chance to know
that Keeter was down. This put both out
of the race, but they are okay.
The 14 Lap Amateur MaIn was to be a
real showdown with just about all the hot
Amateurs around In tbls one. But it
didn't quite turn out to be the duel that
was exPected. The two big favorites
managed to ellmlDllte themselves by
fall1ng during the first part of the race.
John Hateley and Tad Sloan got off In the
first turn to put them out. Terry Dorsch
came through to collect a big win for
himself with Rex Beauchamp taIdng second.
The victory by Rice now extends his
number one position In the national point
race considerably. This is doubly so
because Dick Ma,nn, who flnlshed last In
the MaIn Event was closest to Rice before the race at San Jose.
