Kenyon Wins Again At lodi Cycle Bowl
Lorn, CALIF. JlDle 21, 1970-AlKenyon
made It two in a row by decisively winDlng tile 500Cc Expert feature at the Lodt
Cycle Bowl.
After puttlng on one at tile greatest
races ever "seen-at tile Hayward Speedway on Saturday ntgbt, he rode a devastating d1Jp11cate race to beat John Green
and Jlm FolWY.
Young Al led ott tile heat and had no
problem winDlng that but he was late
com1ng all tile llne in the Main and had
to work his way up past Foley, Green
and the rest of tile field. He did this witll
outside passes and deep braklng. He
closed in on Foley, who was in second,
on lap tbree as tIIey botll neared the
tree turn. As Al dropped IDlderneatll
Foley he set up for a hard drive out and
in doing so went by Green also. From
tIlere it was all down h111 as tile young
SPeedster had no trouble outdistancing
the field.

all witbout some discussion. The 650
Expert and 350 Nonce were stw belDg
dlscussed when everybody packed up to
leave as the SID1 set quickly in tile west.
It went llke tbls. At Riders' Meeting
everyone was told that the starting flag
would be held high just long enough for
you to get into gear and tIlen tile rope
would be released. They use an elastic
string stretched across tile starting 11ne
with a man who has a button to depress.
Th1s may be tile same man who has
tile job at tile Pentagon, just waiting to
push the button that wlll blow up the whole
world. But, at any rate, tile button got
pressed when tile starter wasn't readY
with the flag and it also got pushed when
the riders weren't ready.
Cl1ff Aksland won tile 250 Expert easUy
enough with John Gennatr keePing him
honest. Derek Olsen was tbtrd with old
man Ray Huff beating outJlmFoley.Huff
may have lost some steam now that he
approacbes 40. but that 11ttle amount he
has lost st111 makes him a hard man to
beat.
The last race d the day proved to be
tile most exciting. lerry Chadtm, Terry
Sage. Bruce Anderson and Wheeler Gresham all exchanged wordS and thlngs
before, during and after tbat &ffa1r.
Chadlm led all witll Terry and Bruce
in hot pursuit. Terry got around to lead,
brtetly. and tIIen Bruce out braked him
in one corner only to lose it back to
Chadlm in the n!!xt. Terry had it on tile
last lap IDlt11 tile tree turn. Here, Anderson put on tile big charge and cut tile
course. In dolng so he forced Terry all
the llne. Bruce was all it tooandChadtm
jumped back into tile lead. The last turn
is a constant radius sweeper and Chad1m
Wd 1t down golng into 1t and just 11ke toy
soldiers in a 11ne, tile otber plopped
down beblnd. Secood was Anderson. tIlen
Sage and then Gresham. There may have
been more but tile dust was pretty tbtck.
The rest at the field was tar enough
behind to pick tIIetr way tbrough the
bodies and Bud Smith was first across
the 11ne, followed by Bob Masters, Gene
Conant and Terry Sage who receiveda 11ttle helP from some friends.
