CARLSBAD, CALIF. June 21, 1970After Sunday's CMC Motocross at Carlsbad, Ken Bowser of Fontana and Jell
Jackson of Hollywood are all t1ed up for
the lead in the club's second Golden
State Series.
Bowser wheeled his Yamaha in for the
win in the 100cc Jr. class to give him a
total of 17 points for the series, and
Jackson picked up his total of 17 points
by snuffing the competition in the first
division of the 250cc Jr. class.
Dave Smith is one point behind Bowser and Jackson, while Bob Silverthorn,
Warren Burrell, Larry Pfutzenretuer
and Bob Booth are close behind. There
are still two more races left in the
series so anything could happen. The
next series event is June 28 at Saddleback Park.
With all the Expert riders competing
for a fat pUrse at Mammoth this weekend, the CMC's 200 plus entries were
almost all Juniors and Intermediates.
Mud freaks were in hog heaven at Carlsbad Sunday.
BOWSER AND JACKSON TIED IN SERIES

A very mUddy rider with a very muddy Yamaha gets some pit assistance.
The 125 Ex/lnt. class was void of
Expert riders, so the Intermediates
batUed it out amongst themselves. Jim
Beauchamp and Larry Pfutzenretuer diced it out for the number one slot. Jim
took the win with two wins and a second,
while Larry was second overall with two
seconds and a win.
The Intermediates also had a field day
in the 250Cc Ex/lnt. class. San Diego's
Brad Brown took his CZ to an impressive win in the first two legs, but Dave
Smith, who had played second fiddle,
could not be denied the win in the last
moto. When the poinis were counted it
was Brown on top and Smith second,
followed by Husky mounted Jim Beauchamp, who had been winner of the 125cc
class.
Jim Fishback had the honor of being
the only Expert to win a class. He took
his Yamaha to a win in the first moto
with Larry Burns picking up second on
his Husky. In the second moto Fishback
ran into trouble and Burns took the win,
with Jim way back in fifth position. In
the final leg Fishback needed a win to
be in contention for the overall win.
Burns only needed a second even if
Fishback won. Well, Jim could not be
held and he went on to win the moto.
Larry had his problems and his fourth
place finish only earned him second place
points. Mark Nohr was third overall and
first intermediate.
(Results on page 22)
Larry (34) Burns gets his Husky into position, while Jim (14) Fishback, winner of the 500cc Int/Ex. class, loses control
of his RT-j Yamaha.
