" Cycle Land, Or. ••-Putting Around The G~DENA, CALIF.- Bob Bailey - race promoter, bike shop owner, expansion chamber manufacturer, andAMA National number 33 - has added another dimension to his multi-faceted range of motorcycling interests. And this time he's got as sure a thing as you can possibly have: Bob Bailey's Cycle Land. Located near the intersection of'the San Diego and Harbor Freeways - a stone's throw from Ascot - the young . entrepreneur has leased a 13 acre golf course whtch he will soon open to bike sport riding and motocross racing. Currently, he has a small army watering and cutting the grass, renovating the buildings and laying 'out the course. The new fac1l1ty will have a one mile course, completely enclosed by snow fence. The track will rtin between the greens, where spectators and/or picknicers and/or sunbathers will be situated. Plans are also in the mill for a second, smaller course for NoviceNovice. riders. Bailey says he hopes to complete the necessary work and open the gates for business at the latest, July 3rd. There is a restaurant adjoining the property, as well as a miniature golf course that Balley 15 restoring for enthusiastic riders' not-so-enthusiastic wives and kids. Fees have not yet been established, though they will be comparable to other privately owned cycle parks, Bailey said. Additionally, the Cycle Land operator hopes to eventually 1n1t1tate monthly and yearly rates. The new cycle park is lighted and will be open from 10 am to lOpm, seven days a w~k. A complete underground sprinkler system will keep the grass green and the dust to a minimum. PUMFREY Two of Bob Bailey's crew survey the watering operation at the 7th hole. The former golf course will open for cycles around the first of July. Greens-~ The track itself will traverse the many hills, gullies, sand traps and other obstacles that were part of the original golf course arrangement. And although it will pr"Jably not be as demanding as some of the courses on the loternational motocross circuit, it will certainly provide a floe testing ground for the sport's finer polots. A 300 yard long driving range will be used for a pit and starting area, and during race conditions, riders will blast out of a 50 yard wide by 100 yard long shoot before turning onto the actual course. On-premises parking is adequate, and there 15 ample space surrounding. the course to handie over-flow situations. Right now, Bailey is interested in getting the gates opened, but future plans call for a bike rental shop, a rider's clubhouse and a saies and servic,! operation. A new building will be constructed to house Bailey's current operation now located in Gardena. The site is located between Figueroa and Broadway on Victoria (190th), and 15 accessible frpm both the San Diego and Harbor Freeways. Bailey hopes that his new cycle park will become a recreation spot where fam1l1es will be able to spend evenings and weekends. Trailbikes mOlle Oller!
