They got around the course in quicJt fashion on their 360 Yamaha's with Steve getting the big win. Jess James Jr. captured the 100Cc Novice, Division I on his Bultaco. This season Jess has been a consistant finisher and is coming on strong. Jess' biggest problem and also second place Stan Petterson'S, was SJdp Gallagher. Skip, mounted on a 50Cc Honda, was given a handicap start. It took Jess and Stan the full three laPs to catch him. Tom Jasangar was the big winner in the 100Cc Novice-Division II. Frank Novotney and Bob Weeks were second' and third. It was the battle of the Ka wasakis and Tom's was the strongest. Doug McIntyre and Dan Johnson came uP from Oceanside to fight it out at Perris in the 100cc Novice-Division nr. Doug bested Dan but Dan never looked better and he didn't give uP the win easy. Eric Arras was third. Marty Davis who is going the Motocross route is still keeping his foot in the Scrambles door. He proved his abUity by taking a close one from Jim Arrer in the 125cc Novice Div. Don managed to get off the line first but Rick would get under him going through the esses and that was all she wrote. Frank Robertson was third. Put one Steve Nichols and one Doug Mason in the same 125cc AmateurEJePert class and you've got a great race. From off the line they were aUt, fighting it out all the way with Steve taking the win. Ken Brewster took the 250Cc Novice- Division I for the second week running over Nathan Eyell and Donald Blither. Terry Stanford and brother Toby bad their own thing going in the 250Cc Novice-Division II. Toby blew one chance to take the lead when he got locked in a beautiful slide in the esses. It looked good but it slowed him down and brother Terry was shooting straight on through. At least they kept it in the familY. Chuck Bybee got uP for third. Doug Mason was at it again and this time it was with Tom White in the 250Cc UPHILL'S TRIUMPH Herrero Takes 250 GP Lead WINS PRODUCTION TT SpanIsh Demon Santi Herrero (Ossa) now outpoints Rod Gould (Yamaha) in the 250Cc world championship after flashing to victory in the third round at the recent Yugoslav Grand Prix it was reported in the English Motor Cycle News. ISLE OF MAN, June 7, 1970 - In late news cabled across the Atlantic it was learned that Malcolm Uphill won the 750Cc Production class at this year's Isle of Man classic aboard a three cylInder Triumph Trident. Uphill narrowly won the race after a thrUling last lap personal duel with Norton rider Peter Williams. Instead of the usual three laps this year's race went fIve laps and at the start of the final lap Uphill bad a slim 10 second lead over Williams. At the checkered flag the Norton had carved the time to within 1.6 seconds. At the start of the TT racePaulSmari on another Trident took the lead but retired with a flat tire. Then Uphill and Bryon Steenson on a BSA Rocket Three moved uP to fight for the lead unW Steenson dropped out. Uphill 'rode the entire race in severe pain from leg injuries suffered in practice. Besides a course full of whaop-de-dos and mud that couldn't be avoided, they also got hot, hot weather and one-half hour motos. After thoroughly stomping and kic1dllg on his machine, he led it back to the pits where he fiXed it or he thought he bad. Back on the line the bike again refused to run. By this time the rider bad had it. He pushed it off a small incline, threw his hands uP in disgust and walked off. The Open Jr. Went to K. Jenner, Husky mounted, followed by B. Jones on an American Eagle; S. Lowell Montesa mounted and R. Franklln on a Malco. The Seniors rode with the Juniors, and first place winner Larry Watkins pushed his Malco to the point that he was readY to lap second place C. Cotton. Larry got some spectacular wheelles coming off the jump onto the track. He would ride about 50 yards with the front wheel all crossed uP and finally set her down. Cary Tanner ran away with the Novice mota. He got that Maico lined out and ii was adios to everybody else.
