Gary Reber jumped into a comfortable lead only to drop out with a fouled plug. T1m Mendel wIIo had been battl1ng with Gary for several laps then took the 125 Jr. win. In the second moto T1m Mendel shot into the lead followed closely by Marty . Davis and Gary Reber. Gary successtuUy cbaUenged for second but locked borns witll Marjy dropping both from contentton. The f1na1 rll.und also went to T1m Mendel giving h1DJ. three firsts ~ Marty was second and second over all. Gary Reber was th1rd in the f1nal go, but s1xtb over all. John Bartley was relieved to find out the chap be had so much trouble with in the first two motos was dIsqualif1ed. The additional po1nts and an overwllelming win in the f1nal round won him a pair of genuine Swedisb clogs - wblcb were substituted fOr trophies in tile lOOcc category. The 500 Jr.' s put on the greatest race of the day. Those listed in the results battled every moto for those coveted Swedisb clogs. Warren Burrell moved from third to first in a sweeping movement. John Healy (C Z) wIIo held the No. 1 spot w1lted loto a' th1rd at the checker. Mike Cram easlly won all the 500 Expert motos. Mike held down second for a few laps wilen on the f1na1 round Don Baker, CZ, edged h1m off the line. Don with three Zods beld Mike'S teammate R1cb DavIs to three 3rds. The 250 Jr.' s bas to be one of the most competitive and the w1ldest events of the day. There were two divIs1ons. M1ke Powers won the D1v. l. To illustrate, I will relate the f1nal moto of DivIs10n two. Armond CaPr10, Yamaha, was off to a good start. Leo Hench, second and pusb1ng bard. Mell Vaughan th1rd. Leo closed the door on Armond wb1le f1fth place J1m Cooke moved loto th1rd ahead of Mell wIIo now really turned his Matco 011. J1m moved around Armond and closed the gaP on Leo to four seconds. Just as J1m took tile one lap flag he spun out. He retained second but was now no threat to Leo. Battl1ng for 3rd - Mell andArmond were s1de by s1de in a sand wash, only to crash. Mell's bike started flrst giving b1m a tb1rd place, and a tb1rd overall. Armond fourth and fourth over all. 250 Expert set some of tile fastest times. Tom RaPp dropped out in the first moto but Ray Vanderpool, and Marty Trips continued the battle. Tom RaPP won the second and th1rd motos. Marty Trips ,needed no less than two 2nds in the two f1na1 rounds. He did so in the second but Ray Vande:-pool was there to harass b1m in the th1rd. Ray tr1ed too bard and fell. Marty took a fir st over all away from Tom Rapp. Skip Porter took a 1st over all in the l25cc Div. 2 with two well earned flrsts and a second. David Rbeaume won the flrst moto but was unable to get a good , start on the second and third motos, although be st1U got second over all• Bill Urban won all three motos in tile 125 Expert. Second and tb1rd were a continuing drama. David Boydstum was always tbtrd off the line and would ride side by s1de - wlleel to wlleel witll Davey DavIs. David beat b1m two out of three for a second over all. The CMC wID be holding a motocross at Ensenada the end of July. Watch tor 1t in the calendar - 1t wID be great. (Results on page 22) • G.
