CALIfORNIAN WINS ENSENADA ·.MOTO RO ~ C SS By Rich Hoffman ENSENADA, MEXICO, May 17, 1970You would have to say that the races here are somewhat different than . what might be considered usualln the U.S.A., but you couldn 't find a fr iendlier group of motorcycle anthuslasts anywhere, The races are held about 2 miles south of downtown Ensenada, just off the main road, about 3- 1/2 hours from Orange . County. They are sponsored by the Ensenada Baja Racing Association (EBRA), and consist of four races; a 15lap r ace for 100cc and s maller , a 15-lap race for 101cc to 250cc, a 15-lap open event and a lO-lap Trophy Dash for all comers. There were no entries 'over 25Occ, so it was possible for a good running 250 to go home with 3 trophies for the day, which Paul De LaTorre. from Redondo Beach ac complished on his super-fast Bultaco. By the end of the day, Paul was close to being Ensenada's new National hero. Although the language barrier does cause s ome problems for we " Gr ingos" , the officials do speak English and are ' more than helpful with translation. It turned out to be one hell of a day of races and what was lacking in experience , by most of the. r iders was made up by a ~ strong will to win. ,The crowd r espons e was tremendous , and after the trophy presentations, there was fr ee beer for all the riders.
