AprU 26, 1970 - Overcast sides and a brisk wind was the setting for the San Bernarcl1no Valley M.C.'s Perris potnt-run, The first race left the llne at 9: 15 a.m. and the last one got the cbecker~ flag at 3:55 p.m, Robert Sanders proved that he can flnd his way around the new Perris track, as he beat out regular Doug Mason In the Expert Moto. Rex McLeod was third. Bob Brooks and Robert Edge beat out regulars Allen Ga1Illot and Jess James Jr. In the 100cc NOVice MaIn. Kay Kanak1 was the speediest 125cc Novice of the day, followed by Danny Hart, PhU McDonald and David .T utlor .• Steve Nichols was very much In the groove as he led the boys home In the 125cc Amateur-Expert class. Second place Paul Lambert had his own set of problems, holcl1ng off the charge of Jeff Sexton who flnlshed third. Larry Taylor was ou'-provtng what the number one plate is all about, as he won the 175-20Dcc Amateur Expert Moto. Larry's closest rival was Charles Sodzastrom, but he didn't quite have enough. Bob Saunders was a close third. Kay Kanald had a double good day, as he came back to take a clear win In the 25Dcc Novice Maln• . Steve Mudd bested the pack In the 25Dcc Amateur Moto, and Bob Grunstreet not only got second but a busted bike and a badly bruised body In a nasty spill OF THE DESERT going down the backside. Paul Lambert and Ron Ringer were third and fourth. Charles Gann beat out lAnny Hoclde and Steve Nichols to capture the 25Dcc Expert Moto. The Side Hacks turned out In full force, and were divided Into two groups, with the Lightweights going first, In the Lightweight Division, the teams of MiseUa-Krohn and Prescott-Raub see-sawed back and forth right down to the wire, with MlseUa and Krohn getting the checkered. The Heavyweight Division saw Roescb and Rldyard drive through everything and everybody to take number one. Gerardy and Emmons were second. Tom Ryan, Honda mounted, took the 350cc Novice Moto over two other Honda mounted rtders, David Karschner and James Johnnie. Dave Kuhnboff and Davey Davis had their own thing going, as ' they left the rest of the pack to flght It out. Davey had a last chance drive which brought him close, but not close enough, to beat out Dave. Triumph was one, two, three In the 65Dcc Novice Moto, with Dave Tudor, Alan Holllster and Jack Boal the ptlots, Andy Skeel has got to 'be awarded Spectator's- Choice -Of- The- Day award. In the first heat the starter put Andy behind the pack with a backward start. Much to everyone's surprtse, Andy was In flrst place before the first turn was completed. He led the race only to lose In a dead heat finish to Vince Graves. Andy came back to take the next two by a def1n1te margin. Bob Fraunberger and Jim Connolly had the battle royal In the 500 Expert Moto, but Bob's Bultaco had more than Jim's Greeves and that was It. Cliuck McIntosh had his eye on second spot but Jim out rode him. Sandy Armstrong was It all the way In the 65Dcc Am/Ex. Class and added some fancy broad slides through the esses just f or tun.
