EVERYO NE O UGHT TO HAVE O NE IW OULD HAVE W H ON ,ANDSDOW N 'BELIEVE I HAVE ,A REMEDY AMERI CAN HOSPITALITY My husband and I attended the Cycle ' 70 motorcycle show In San Francisco. We picked up a llttle free pamphlet called MORE ON LEGISLATION. Inside, it showed the names of the Assemblymen and Senators and the number of motorcyclists by County . It also had some very good tips on how to address and write letters to our representatives at the state capitol. We think every motorcyclist In Calltornia ought to have one of these books. We loaned ours to a friend and now it' s gone, My husband wants some for his motorcycle club members, Do you know how we can order them. MRS. CAROL MORRIS Citrus Heights, Callt, The pamphlet. MORE 0"1 LEGISLATION , Is produced and distributed by Russ Sanford's organization , Motorcycle Owners, Riders and Enthusiasts (M.O.R.E.) . Copies can be obtained by writing to Sanford at IIox 26062, Sacramento, Calif. 9:1826 ... Ed. You ran an article about the mini-prix at Carlsbad In last week's Issue of Cycle News. I rode In that race and rode harder than I ever have In the last five years. The Open Experts took ott at the drop of the flag, then (16 seconds later) the 250's took off, then (39 seconds later) the 125 class was flagged off, including me. I rode what I feel was my best ever, ridlng tinder, over, and around, all the Opens and all but one of the 250 Experts. That was Dave Smith on his Ossa. According to your article Dave Smith was first overall, Mono Fox (500cc) second, and I, Rick Vesco, third on a l25cc, The official results are enclosed for your convenience. Mono Fox, as you will see was actually seventh, and I lapPed him. Not only was I second but I lapPed all other 125cc Experts twice In 24lapsl The president of the Brush Barons said he did not realize that a 125 would flnish anywhere near the toP. It he had Over the past year or so I have seen several articles and letters In CYCLE NEWS about cycle theft at race tracks. I belleve I have a remedy. Every rider could fill out a 3"x5" card with some vital information, such as, name, carl llcense, bike make and frame or engine number• . These cards could be left at the gate and every time a vehicle with a cycle In . it leaves, it would be checked. I realize the time this takes may be trritating, however, if it were my bike that was being sneaked out the gate, I wouldn't mind the extra time. Let's show some American hospitality to the for eign motocross riders. It would be nice for these riders, while riding In America, to be Invited to stay In our homes. This Invitation would help offset the cost of travellng and give these men a better picture of theAmerlcan public. The benefit of the Invitation won't be one-sidedHow about it fellow riders? DOTTIE KIMBALL 3101 Peters Circle Glendale, Callt. By the way, the rider whose bike quit just past check four In last week's CERA enduro can pick up his jacket, etc. at the next CERA meeting or call 4284830. RICK VAN HOOK Long Beach, Cal. An excellent Idea. Motocross stars from Europe will again be In the U.S. this summer. and fall so now Is the time to plan for a show of hospitality that they will remember. As a matter of fact visiting Speedway riders have been given airport receptions and wann trackside welcomes by the Speedwa y Supporters Club , an organization of hundreds of Speedway fans. Club Presl dent Cheryl Funk could probably gi ve lots of pointers to anyone wishing to organize a similar group to welcome motocro ssers .. .Ed. 'B~~: ~~~~:~ Y 0 NO STATIC FROMTHISRADI O CREW Many of the riders In the Dirt Diggers would like to give some much needed recognition to an organization that has devoted a tremendous amount of time and effort to make motorcycle racing sater and more enjoyable. The International Racing Radio Crew is a group of guys that enjoy helping riders by providing efficient coverage and communications over vast areas of courses that are otherwise not covered. They are seen by most participants s itting patiently In their various vehicles llstening to strange scratching noises coming from the funny boxes with all the controls. I say by most participants because a few of the less fortunate don't finish a race and they 're the ones who will understand what I'm driving at. I personally have seen these radio men carry out Injured r iders on stretchers and by hand and can cite numerous Instances where they have assisted with getting broken machines back to the pits. Something most people don't know is that the International Racing Radio Crew works for nothing but the fun of it. The clubs generally provide a beer or soft drink or two but that's it. All thetr equip men t and time they provide because they enjoy the sport of motorcycling. There's a lot of money Invested In those radios arid if you agree that the y deserve some thanks you can help them. Until June 28 they' re r attllng a brand new Yamaha DTlC to help finance better . equipment and if you're Interested you can contact one of them at any Dtst, 37 desert event and they 'll be glad to sell you a chance. Some of the clubs that ride desert events are helping them sell their tickets and if you're In a club , and your club isn't selllng tickets, maybe you ought to think about it. It might be ,your ass they save next time. NATE SCIACQUA, DDMC Los Angeles, Callt. voice. thought about the timing of the start I would have won hands down. I did not leave the starting line until 39 s econds atter Dave Smith left. At the end of the race Smith had only a 13 second lead on me. Wouldn't you say I should have won by at least 26 seconds? RICK VESCO El Cajon , Calli. O.K. Rick , the official res ults a s releas ed by the Brush Baron s appear on our results page thi s week . .The story clearly stated that the results that had you listed as third were unofficial , so your accomplishment is in the record books for all to see. ... Ed. This is to set the record straight about the 100cc mud race at Bay Mare, on March 22, 1970. The I.R.E. gave the lOOcc class 50% trophies because of the mud and track conditions. Motocross means mud and I for one am willlng to race In the mud again for 50% trophies. And I am sure there are plenty of other riders that feel the way I do. The future of the lOOcc Jr. class at I.R .E . is at stake duetothebadpubllcity. CHARLES PUMFREY Simi, Callt. I\ TOP CALI BER I have been riding In the desert a relatively short time. Every time my family and I go, we are more and more impressed by the callber and integrity of the people that participate In desert events. Several weeks ago, while riding at Hi Vista, I lost my wallet. It contained no money, but had all of my credit cards and identification In it" Last week I got a call from Mr. Denny Reed of Culver City. He had found my wallet, and at his own expense, made several phone .calls trying to locate me. F1nally, atter finding me, he returned the walle t and asked nothing In return. Thank you again, Mr, Reed, you are a credit to the sport. JOHN E . KOSHAREK Temple City, Callt. MOTOCROSSMEANS M UD ~ HARDLY MADE A DENT Having attended the European Scrambles put on by the Jesters on April 5th, and being one of the very last people to leave the pit area, I notice great quantities of papers and cans le!t behind. I also noticed that atter the races, the Jesters were among the first people to leave the area. Myself and several other people spent more than one hour picldng up trash, until we could carr y no more home with us , Atter all our efforts, we hardiy made a dent In the mess. I think it would be fitting if this club would' spend a weekend at this area cleaning it UP. JOHN J. BOUGHNER Huntington Beach, Cal. IT'S A SHAME Feather River M.C. disappointed a lot of motocross riders on April 12, 1970. First of all, they combined Novices , Amateurs, and Experts In one class. It really was a mess, especially when they had enough r iders to be divided evenly. Secondly, the y couldn' t read the number plates because of the mud. (Which they should have consid er ed.) But the real Intelligent ..art cam e when their Incompetent s cor ekeepers told the guys to wipe their number plates off while they wer e racing. It 's a shame a club like Fea ther River M.C. Is A.M.A. sanctioned. You not only miss out on the brass, but you miss out on the points, as ' well . They certainly could take a few lessons on running a motocross. C.M.C. can run a well organized and fair motocross. Why can 't F .R .M.C.? The one good thing about this letter is I get a cbance to tell you (Cycle News) what a great newspaper you have. My husband sells them at his station and we both feel it's a must for people who enjoy motorcycle racing. Mrs . RAY ATKINSON Napa, Callt. 0 ON E OF THE BEST Regarding the 2nd Annual Hangtown Motocross by Dirt Diggers North: It was one of the best organized events of' the year. Our compllments go to all the Dirt Diggers. The course was well laid out and very well marked. As for spectators, it was great. De Soto, Mann and Han Hanson, along with all other riders put on a great race. As for the trophies, they were excellent, even as far as last place. Thanks Dirt Diggers, and we'll see you at the 3rd Annual Hangtown, with all our tans and racing buddies. BRUCE & CARLA HANSON Citrus Heights, cal.
