Realizing that he couldn't get under Woods, he took the high groove and it was suddenly apparent to everyone that he was getting fantastic traction on the outs ide, while Woods couldn' t seem to get his wheel to the ground. Steve moved uP on Rick down the back straight, but Woods kept the l ead by virtue of taking the shorter way around. Down the front straight, they were handlebar to handlebar. But coming down the back straight they appeared to drift into each other, and it was obvious that they wer e tangled together. As they wrenched apart, Steve went down and Rick headed for the wall. Woods was able to shut it down and make the cor ner. Woods then stopped at the ambulan ce, and stepping off his machine, he collapsed, as he put weight on his r i ght leg, Woods had lacerations and br uises where Steve's f ront wheel had hooked onto his f ootpeg and banged it uP, while Bast was ta ken to the hospi tal wi th a possible broken wrist sustained in the spill.
