ALBERT PONTI TAKES HONORS AT SALINAS M.C. HILLCLIMB Grossi Wins CZ In Series ,Finale EASTER SEAL BENEFIT MOTOCROSS PLYMO UTH, CA LIF . April 26, 1970Bob Grossi won a new CZ 250 this afternoon, the grand prize in CMC North's six race CZ series. Bruce Kelley (Hus ) and Steve F oster ( BuI) were close contenders, but Grossi would have had to make a mistake to give Kelly or Foster a chance - and he didn't. GrossI 's closest competition in 500 Senior came from Brad Lackey. Brad rode h18 North - Bay C Z as hard as he could, but Grossi was consistently out i n front and only machine troubles could have cost him his win. Having no problems with his Husqvarna's, Bob just couldn't be touched. -, whole crowd 18Bobby Noble (CZ), Noble's aggressive, feet-up style is great to watch, and he wins a lot, too. 125 Junior and Sen10r classes ran together this weekend, and the most interesting action seen was the hard r i ding efforts of Steve Foster (BuI) and Rory Muscatell (Am. Ea J. Fosterr had a sUm chance to win the C Z, and Mus catell 18 perhaps the fastest 125 Junior rider in Nor thern Callforma. Both were really getting it on. , Some rain and hall cam e down during the day, but most of the spectators held their ground in the face of the elements. (Results on page 19) GONZALEZ, CALIF . April 19, 1970The rolling h1lls of this northern Callfo rma community was the setting for the SaUnas Ramblers M .C .'s h1llcUmb Sunday, as Cons18tent Albert Ponti and his Triumph did it again, taking lop honors i n the 650cc Expert Class and setting the f astest time of the day, at 7.0 1 seconds. Bud Key, the f irst year Novice, bested the 100Cc class, as he has yet f ailed to trophy in hillcUmb competition. In the 200Cc Novice class, fi r st time rider Robert Terrell (Yamaha) grabbed off the fir st place gold, but not before a hattle with the flying Bultaco brothers, Robert and Larry Silvia. The 650Cc Novice event was m or e of a race than a climb, Tommy Burnett' s fast 8.93 second run was finally beate n by Ron True, who took a t1rstln the class. At the end of the first hall of the 650Cc Amateur run, Dick Oxford, Jim Thompson and Jim True were all teid for first. But after some quick gear and tire changes, Larry Smith ended up in the number one spot.
