HELENA, CALIF. AprU 19,1970Napa'S Valley CUmbers M.C. presented its Second Annual Pope Valley Trial hosting 61 Bay Area riders in four classes. Low score of the day and the Expert class winner was Paul Oll1ges of Red- wood City, with 33 marks, followed by Lee Cohee with 51 marks and second in Expert class. Third low score and Amateur class winner was James Higgens with 52 marks. Novice A winner was Danny Timmons; Novice B winner was Gary Horstkata; and Junior winner was Don Murphy, age 14. AprU 28, 19, 1970 - Bruce Anderson put on a spectacular show for the few souls who braved the extremely late hours and biting cold at the ChowchUla Fatrgrounds, for the Madera Braves M.C. oPener. Anderson is still recovering from an accident last summer but Is looking better and better with each appearance. He hopes to return to class 'C' this summer. Anderson's competition came from Norm Seidel. The heat was quite close between the two, with both sending up gigantic rooster tails going down the front stratghtaway. It appeared that the MaIn would be the same, but as the two were slidlngthrough turn one, Seidel's front wheel banged Anderson's rear and Bruce went satl1ng out. He kept on the gas though, and Seidel was forced to slow. He matntalnedfourth, . as Bruce went on to the victory. Most riders Just kept the gas on and tried to maneuver over it, even though it wasn't at a right angle; By 3:30 it started to get' cold. Most riders were back and tell1ng tales of mud and downs and rocks and h1lls that made your hatr stand on end. Everyone f1n1shing came in mud crusted and barely recognizable, One , Hus ky rider came bombing into the finish undlstrubed that he had no rear tire and was riding on the rim. Most weren't. The first section before check 1, which if you rode on time, took 31 minutes. It was the muddlest with lots of up and downs, a few fast stratght, (but bumpyl), and some real dU11es of right handers. There were 25 entries sent out of state but an undetermined number of these people showed. Between 300 and 400 spectators crowded the start-f1n1sh wattIng to see how their friends and relatives George Graham made his move on the last lap of the 350 Novice MaIn, and dove to the Inside of the first turn, to lead the troops to the checkered. Lee Seidel was in complete control of the 500 Amateur go andiwon easUy. The 250 Expert MaIn was a thriller, as three riders were all in contention for the victory right until the end. George Holland barely nipped Joe Brown, as they went up the straightaway side by side. Scott Brelsford won another 250 Amateur MaIn and it looked easy for this up and coming young man. Don Forbes survived the onslaught of some 40, 250Cc Novices, to take home the big brass. Ivan Shlgemasa has stepped downfrom a 200 Bultaco to a 175cc machine of the same make. He also stepped up to the winner's circle.
