WILSON WINS SIX AND SACHS . Eas,-Wes' Mo'ocross Battle S'aping Up By Ron Sz1lagy1 PALMDALE, CALIF. April 5, 1970- Jim "Ho-Hum" WUson executed his usual six moto wins, for overall honors 10both the 250cc and 500cc EllPert class, 10 the East- West Challenge series, here Sunday at Anzac Raceway. In the process, Wilson won a 125cc Sachs, plus becoming the top point man 10 ' try-outs" for the West squad. The Greeves EllPert easily won the first two 250 Sr. motos, holding Tim Hart (Montesa) at bay. Tim got a jump on Wilson 10 the f1nal moto, only to drop to 2nd and an overall 2nd behInd Wilson. Wilson came back in the 500 Sr. go to . meet the challenge of J.N. Roberts (Husky), Mike Bast (Malco), John Rice (Malco) and Whitey Martino (Husky). In the first moto, Mike Bast (behind Wilson and ahead of J.N.) literally put his Malco sideways, and he was through for the day. Wilson handily won all three motos with 2nd golog to J.N. Roberts (Husky) and John Rice (Malco) picking up third overall. Wilson w1nn1ng all his motos was tied with Dave Rodgers (Bul) 10 the Senior competltiton for the Sachs. Rodgers had won all motos 10 the 125 Sr. class. Large turnout 01 250's bend Into IIrst turn. Large crowd aut lor a day of sun and racing got their money's worth. A 5 lap run off was held, Dave on his 125cc and Jim on his 250. They were started but, because of the difference 10 birds, Wilson was required to win by more than 30 seconds to be ellgible for the Sachs. Hi-Way Kings' Ride Attracts 370 Bikes On Poker Run BY H.J. Eble Jr. , LONG BEACH, CALIF. March 22, 1970More than 370 riders were on hand early this morning, as the HighwayK1ngsM.C. readied for the start of their Poker Run. The entrants left LOng Beach via the San Diego Freeway, turning off at ' the distant Saugus-Newhall exit. From that potnts, two alternate routes were available, \ F1nally, after mling their poker hands at the various check polots along the way, riders arrived at the destination, where they were treated to a reasonably priced barbeque luncheon. The bar was open, and music was provided by the Canyon Country Boys. Promptly at 3 p.m, the award ceremonies got under way. Those receiving trophies locluded: Earl Holmes, for his 30 year membership 10 AMA; Jack Anderson of the Norwalk Centaurs, for his , 13 annual run; and, Bob Holloway of the Manteca Golden Bears, who traveled 10 a sidecar from Stockton with his family. Two new clubs, the Brushbusters and the Shooting Stars, also picked up the brass. The Bushmasters had tied with the Norwalk Centaurs for the Largest Club award, but a toss of the coin decided 10 favor of the Centaurs. In re-countlng their members, however, the Norwalk club discovered they were one short of , the original total. And, 10 a display of sportsmanship, the relinquished the trophy to the new club. . Wilson did the deed and won the new Sachs. The 125 Sachs to the top Jr. went to Terry Bilton (Ma!co) 10the 500 Jr. class. Terry literally flew over the rough Anzac course. Sandy (a girl) Termlo (Hodaka) (Desert Da1sys) really showed the boys 10 the first moto of the 100 Jr. class, taking a second. In the second moto Sandy took an uneasy lead but dropped to third and f1nally out of contention, when the engine stalled and upon restarting - hisided. George Spellman (Kaw) carried off the 100 Jr. class win followed by Bob Haag The East- West challenge Series 15 sponsored by International Racing Enterprises, and will result 10 the top six west coast riders meeting the top six east coast riders at Pepperell, Mass. on May 31. Riders are selected on the bas15 of top polots 10 four out of five races. West coast riders will be flown to the event, and the w1nn1ng team will receive $600. On June 7, at Bay Mare, the east coast team will fly here for are-match. The top western rider 10the two match races will receive an all expense trip to the International Six Day Trials 10 Spain.
