Bob Haag put the 100cc win over with his Bul but not without some anxious moments provided by Scott Pelkey who led with his Sachs for a while. At the mid-day break the real scrambling action took place when a six-foot Easter bunny waved the flag that set off a hundred or so nimble kids who practically destroyed a roped off section of ground in search of plastic easter eggs. Most of the eggs contained candy or the usual Easter stuff but one special egg was good for a new Maverick Mini-bike. B1ll Watkins, brother of third place 500 Junior winner Larry Watkins came uP with the lucky egg which won him the Maverick and a kiss from enthusiastic Mis s Maverick, Laurie Adams. « Ugh, B1ll growled, wiping his cheek, "I hope that sutff comes off" • . Well, Perris opened its gates for the first scrambles of the season, and although ' the turnout was small, it was enthusiastic, although somehwat conrused, Why confused ? Simple. Perris has undergone a face 11ft and the track ain 't quite the same. First off, the starting line is nowdownin front, and it leads you into a long turn which has taken the place of the sweeper. After that you find yourself in some pretty tight S'es and then a long straightaway, the back turns and another long straightaway. The opinions are varied as to whether they like the course or not. Gerry Burton is the first ,to admit the track still needs a lot of work, but he's doing jus that. Dennis KAWASAKI Twin 250cc. Engine andSonlc weld frame . Creason said he didn't like it but then went out and won,all three of his heats, so I think he may have a change of heart. Mike Posey had no comment, but he had a flat tire in his first heat and had to hang it.up. Skip Gallagher wasn't quite sure, and it was that way with ,the majority of riders. The Burtons have also added bleachers, which the spectators overwhelmingly approved. Congratulations to Steve TiIisley, who went from Novice to #29 Expert in one season. Old crazy Steve, my "Red Baron", has bilen promoted to Head Beagle. Good Luck. Kevan'Larrick believes in starting his kids early, as his four year old son has his own Indian Mini-Bike and entered the Mini-Bike race. And even if he couldn 't keep uP with the big boys, he did get around the track. But so did Dad - on foot just to make sure Jr. didn't crash. Hope Bob Greenstreet is well on the road to recovery, as he had surgery Monday morning. Bob told the doctor he wouldn't be able to check into the hospital by four o'clock because he had some business to take care of. The business, of course, was riding the scrambles. I keep telling you guys you're crazy, but you just don't listen. The Burtons court date has aga1Ii been postponed, and this time it's set for April 29th. Keep the letters coming if you haven ' t already, The address is Byron C. Morton, District Attorney, District Attorney's Office, Riverside, California. As I've said before the Burtons appreciate it, and the way things have been going about the only place left to ride our bikes will be in our own garage.
