Norm Seidel survived a brutal sp11l in the 650Cc and 500cc Elqlert go, But after the second restart, he was long gone until the last two laps, when San Jose's Manny Simas started to cut a trail and close the gap. The big four strokes are st11l great to watch but the speed and handling rests in the smaller, lighter bikes. The fastest man around the tricky, rutty sand pit was Elqlert Al Kenyon, on a new Bultaco, Kenyon had an extremely poor start and had difficulty catching up in the first few laps. He really made a great sh ow on the last two laps, though, as he ca ught and passed second place John Genna! and f1nal1y the leader, Gene Conant. Kenyon made up time in the corners and down hill, which Is extremely tricky at speed because of the ruts . Scott Brelsford, had some exciting moments 1ri winning the 250 Amateur event, as he was forced to go to extremes to beat Dave Pestoni. His style is not .; r . J . . ~ t.:l altogether different from big brother:C: Mark, who used to race here not many ~ year back. U Pestoni and Brelsford have been doing :.. battle quite regularly of late, with the U most recent being at Uva Meadows, where the finishing order was reversed. The 250 Novice affair was won by Wayne Farrell. George Graham, got by Sprint mounted John Hood over the jump in the 350 Novice bout and held on for the checkered . The Harley would pull way ahead of Graham's Bulin the strtght, only to lose some ground in the turns. Dick Lind barely beat out Dave Harris in the 500 Amateur go, as Harris charged hard in the last laps on his 2fiO CZ, to finisb right behind the Milico. Dick Steinke did a credible Job of finishing third ona Triumph that closely resembles a Bultaco in its outward appearance. At the completion of the regular main, a 10 lap Sweepstakes was held for all 1st and 2nd finishers. The course was run in reverse, and Dan Stokes narrowly beat out young Breslford. Stokes had won the 500 Novice event and charged by the 250 pilot at the start. But Brelsford got with the program, caught uP quickly, but simply couldn 't get by. It was such a good ride, however, that Scott was also given atrophy. ~ ..Jt Literally knuckle to knuckle, two riders scramble for position at the Salinas Ramblers M.e. Scrambles, he Id two weeks aao.
