Shaw Wins Dsh And Main At Irojan Speedway 'a . By Eddie Smith SOUTH GATE, CALIF. Mar . 13, 1970Larry Sha w r iding a 250c c Bultaco won two races at Trojan Speedway on F riday the 13th. Larry won the 250 nat track Trophy Dash. He also r ode his Bultaco to victory In the 250 nat trac k Malo Even t . In th e 250 TT Malo Event Shaw rode a Yamaha. Go ing into the flrst turn Larry's bike stopped running. He had trouble getting it started again. Two laps later he got the bike started and continued on his way. The 250 TT Malo was won by Tom White mounted on a Bultaco. Als o r iding a Bultaco an d f1n1shlng s econd was last wee k' s wlnner Irwln Moon. Moon and White battled the entire race wlth the lead swltchlng several times. Moon was involved In an accident wlth two other bikes at the start of the race. John Corbett riding a Hodaka In the 100 nat track heat race lost his bik e as he a rne out of the num ber two turn. John fUpped his bike and both he and the bike rolled down the back straight. John was not injured In the accident. Jim Raymond r iding 'a Kawasaki won the 100 TT Trophy Dash and finished flrst In the 100 TT Malo Event. Ji m also placed second In the 125 TT Malo on a Yamaha. Paul Wilde brought his Yamaha to vlctory- In the 100 nat track Trophy Dash and Malo Events. Paul f1n1shed second In the 100 TT Malo Event. Eric Olesen riding a 250 Bultaco won the 250 TT Trophy Dash. Eric also f1n1shed beh1nd Larry Shaw In the 250 nat track Malo Event. March 13, 1970 - Steve Hurd, the Malco mounted Montebello motorcycle shop owner, was named overall ' wlnner of the Elslnore Grand Prix big bike competition, at trophy presentation ceremonies held Friday night at the Newporter Inn. And, officially, Gary Bailey was declared overall wlnner of the small bore diVision. ' But the latter decision wasn't exactly wasn't scored. Furthermore, Smith sald that the video tape of the small bike event had been destroyed shortly after the completion of the race, and there was no way of provlng his contention. (In a similar development, many of those present at Friday night's presentation felt that Tom Rapp, the Bultaco mounted motorcross r ider, had f1n1shed ahead of Bailey. Rapp was listed In tenth place In the official standings.) After Smith left the stage, Foxe told the crowd that the possibility of an error cerlalnly existed. He polnted out, however, that individually scoring 1100 riders was a herculean endeavor. The Gripster's rac1ng director said that the club's malo defense was evident In pictures publlshed In last wee k's edition of unanimous. " I know wlthout a doubt that I won that race," Malcolm Smith, the rider that pre-ceremony speculation had place at the top of the 250cc heap, told a capacity crowd of several hundred people attendlng'the event. Smith had come to the stage just as Jim Foxe, raclng dlrector for the Gripsiers Motorcycle Club, was presenting the lightweight trophy to Bailey. Flndlng a vacant microphone, Smith told the audience that offic1al tabulations s howed him completing only three laps UWASAI' G.P. Trophy Presentation Cycl e Weekly. These, he sald, clearly showed the non-readable status of Smith's number plates. In a subsequent private exchange between Smith and Bailey, the wlnner of last year's Baja 1000 told the Greeves motocross elq)ert that there was " nothlng personal" In his pronouncement. He said his complalnt was wlth the Gripsters and thelr " phony" number plates. Friday night's ceremonies cllmaxed the Gripsters M.C.'s annual dash around the streets and backwoods of Elslnore. Dignitaries from the City of Elslnore were on hand to congratulate riders and SPectators for their cond uct during the race, and to welcome them back "any- time." And to soothe any hard feellngs that may have arisen, the bar did a booming booze buslness, and a rock band provided music throughout the evenlng.
