Orange County ~ Hosts A.F.M. Grand Prix Ray Wanna temporarily holds off Steve Bast and Jim Dawson. Steve won the 125 TT Main. • MOON SHINES AT MUDDY TROJAN By Eddie Smith SOUTH GATE, CAL. Feb. 6, 1970-Frlday n1ght Ir win Moon won the 250 Tropby Dash and Main Event at the muddy Trojan Speedway. Moon was mounted on a 250 Bultaco In both of the TT races. The track was very slick and muddy from the recent rains. At the start of the 250 TT Main five bikes tangled on the first turn and the race had to be restarted. On the restart Irwin Moon brought his Bultaco a little too low In the . first turn and started a chain reaction with bikes and riders taking to the muddy track. When the race flnally got under way Moon jumped Into the lead to stay. He was chased by Tommy Horton and Steve Bast, both ere riding Yamahas. Larry Shaw riding a Bultaco won the 250 Flat Track Trophy Dash. Shaw also won the 250 Flat Track Main Event. In the Main Event Larry was leading D.C. Ralph by the length of the straight=:- -Iohn Caldwell and Ralph hattled it out for s econd place. Ralph just edged John across the finish line for second. Steve Bast brought his Maha to victory In the 125 TT Main Event and Trophy Dash. The 125 Fla t Track and Trophy Dash was won by Scott Autrey on his Yamaha. The firs t of 8 races wUl have the racers fighting for every point. With the National Point Champion going for the Castrol Motor all Pe rpetual Tr ophy and Its cash prize, the Regional Cham pion will be going for the Mike Ha llwood Per pe tua l Award with its share of products awards. Havin g both Grand Prix races, allowing any type of modifications, and Street Production races, being sh owro om s to ck, the day nf racing will be highly diversified. Speidway Early thi s week Ex-World Speedway Champ Barry Briggs announced that he is signing a $100,000 contract to secure himself and other internationally rankIng speedway riders for a series of 12 Inter-Am patterned Speedway events up and down the West Coast. The races are backed by Peter Palmer and Pete Joseph. Palmer is the man behind Great Bear Enterprises and promoted the Indoor Speedway races at the Los Angeles Sports Arena last season. Briggs is contracted to ride In the International competition an d bring with him some six or seven 'of the World 's best speedway riders to fill out the card. Riders from Europe, England, Aus. tralia and Japan are expected to be on hand for the series that will be run on tracks In Northern and Southern California .
