' By BUl Spencer cow PALACE, SAN FRANCISCO Feb. 28, 1970- Migbty Mark Brelsford, without being overly repetitious, did it again and again in the season closer by winning the regular 15 lap main, his 10th win, and a special' 25 lap Barn Burner for $500. Brelsford andbisHarley-Davidsonbad no trouble winning the special main event as be came from an eighth spot start to second coming .out of the first turn. The pole position went to Dave Hansen wbo picked the magic number out of a can. Hansen led of! the start but relinquisbed first to Mark on the second go round and dropped to third when Jim Rice also got underneath him. Brelsford then started to pick bIs way through the rest of the twelve man field with a few of the strangers dropping out. Manfred Heyrend riding a Yamaha was first Into the first turn' all three races and from there Just continued to stretch his lead to the finish Une each time. Charley Thompson on an American Eagle had to ride hard as second place Phil Heyrend, also riding an American Eagle, was a threat to him all afternoon, In fact, In the last moto, Charley trying to overtake Phil took a nasty spUl approaching the finish line. He was able to remount his bike and take a seventh place enabling him to still place first overall In the Open class. Brelsford had many things going against him tonight as he started in the back row of his qual1fy1ng heat. which he won and being handicapped in the heat and semi, he managed a third and second respectively.
