, Your American Motocross Team was founded with the l n t of Americailriders to compete in the European motocross circuit and bring closer the day when we watch the Stars and Stripes wave over the winner's platform as an American is crowned World Motocross Champion. The Team founders believe that people here at home who are interested In motorcycllng as a sport and Interested In America wfll be wW1ng and proud to skip a few beers or even a Hell's Angel movie to help carry the flag in to battle on foreign son, The European motocross circuit Is one batuieId where we can promote a lot of American freedom and goodwfll and that's an opportUnity we can't pass UP. The American Motocross Team has far reach1ng plans for thls season but let's look first at what they have already done with funds and donations from team members: ~ Founded and publiciZed the AMxT as a non-profit effort to bring about ~ American World Motocross Champion. an ~ Pald for letterheads, promotional matter, team patches and press con~ rerences, ~ Supported Ron Nelson and John DeSoto in a 3-month racing tour of Euope ~ during 1969. t to Gary Balley, Jim ":7' Contributed es upporwere ~cing In Europe. One of the thlngs that the Team learned Is that it takes a stack of greenbacks to properly fleId a team of motocross racers in Europe. This season the Team plans to concentrate its support on Team ' Captain Russ Darnell. Other Amer1can r1ders will have the benefit of Russ' years of experience racing the European courses and if funds permit, other Americans may receive the flnanc1a1 backing of the AMXT. Selection of riders to represent the team 15 of utmost consideration, To achieve the best riders In the fairest way the Team talent scouts wfll be watchlng top Amer1can riders from an parts of the country. There are many matters that may loterfere with a rider's making the team in Europe. Racing on fore1gn ground may mean riders would have to take leave from their Jobs and fam1l1es for the entire season. They will need the ,wfll to give up the comforts and conven1ences of home and face the hardships of living on the road with a lim1ted budget . , There are many outstanding motocross r1ders who may become eligible for AMXT sponsorship. These riders come from all across the States and 1nclude Barry H1gglos, Bruce McGuire, Jeff Penton, Bob Leach, Bill Uhl, Dick Jagow, J1m Wilson, Gary Balley, Jim West and a host of other poss1b1l1ties some ofwh1ch we haven't even heard of yet. Perhaps that 14 year old kid you know who rides his lOOcc motocross bike like there Is no tomorrow wfll be a future American World Champion. Whoever our flrst champton Is, he'll need lots of European exper1ence and that's where you come in. Your dollars are needed to send and sustain American riders in Europe. The flve dollars (or more) that you send Is your contribution and membership 10 the AMXT. In return you get not only a multicolored jacket patch but also the knowledge that you are a real member of the team. That patch costs Just less than $2 so that doesn't leave much to do the job but if you dig motorcycles and want to see your country on top in the competition, join the American Motocross Team today• ~ Learned a lot. .
