A few phone calls made or some flyers sent out announcing the cancelled event would have saved many rides this long and fruitless trip. All the riders we talked to said It was the last trip they would make to any advertised Placerville Motorcycle Club sponsored event. A race Is as good as Its riders and I know of a lot of good riders who will not be back to help this club put on a good show for Its spectators. I think maybe the Hangtown Club may have "hung themselves" for any future events they may have planned. EDNA CONWAY Orov1l1e, Cal. MY 'BONNIE LIES OVER THE OCEAN Last year (through the summer of' 69) I toured most of Europe on a Triton motorcycle. Many hours of painstaldng work went into the construction of that 'beast' and I became very fond ot it. Because of Illness I had to leave the motorcycle In England with friends. The problem now Is to locate a reliable and inexpensive means of shipping the Triton trom England to Callfornla. _ Some friends of mine told me that they read an advertisement in Cycle News whicb stated a shipping charge of about .$100.00 air freight trom England to points in the U.S. The ad appeared sometime during 1969. I have been unable to find the Issue of Cycle News which contained that ad. I cannot ver1!y the ad or write to the shipping firm. U that ad does not turn llP, do you have any suggestions about locating a shipping firm ? . BRUCE A BArnO 415 Escalona" Dr. Santa Cruz, Cal. 95060 SalTY. Also,I have an obligation to thousands of riders who are not AMA members who want a choice, . and I do not want to let them down either. SCORER'S PLIGHT After attending the race at Huntington Beach as a specator on February 8th, I find they do need help in scorekeeping. The published results in Cycle News were not close to the results that I witnessed. I was standing behind the scorekeepers and overheard a hot discussion as to which rider came In and when. Obviously they were contused. I know several of the riders who participated and were short-changed In the final tally. If this situation is not cleared up in the near future they could lose riders and the spectators at Huntington Beach. BETTY PHILLIPS Torrance, Cal. SCORER'S PLIGHT I'm writing about that article in the Feb. 17 Issue on the Huntington Beacb race. I don't know what kind of rules the ACA regulate their races with. I thought It was an automatic dlsqualltlcatlon It a rider went to the pits and worked on his bike during the race and then pushes his bike to the checkered flag to still be in contention. How come #29 was allowed this privilege, in the 100cc class ? Also their scorekeeping left a lot to be desired since there was an obvious error in the 250 Jr. class. In the first moto 3 Experts finished 1,2,3 then the two Kohler brothers finished 4th and 5th with one Kohler going across the finish l1neendoIng; How could they have been missed and scored 7th and 8th In that moto when they f1nlshed 4th and 5th? JOSEPHINE GRGICH Torrance, Calif. Miss Grgich also sent a copy 01 this letter to Don England. owner operator of n.B.C.p. Don has sent us a copy of the letter answering the inquiry ...Ed. I sincerely appreciate your taking the time to write me regarding the possible error In scoring of the ACA event of Feb. 8 at Huntington Beach Cycle Park. On that date, ACA leased the Park for an ACA sanctioned event. In cases where clubs or racing associations lease the Park, you can understand that they are in control of the race for the day providing certaln ground rules are abided by. Having raced myself for the past decade, I understand the riders viewpoint. This Is one of the reasons Huntington Beach Cycle Park provides free ambulance service at our events, recognizes the riders at parade laps and announcing, haVing his trophy promptly engraved and available, etc. I have personally talked to the ACA scorekeeper and was told the scoresheets were available by calling (714) 528-4290. I hope the riders involved can get the results worked out to their satisfaction. DON ENGLAND Huntington Beach Cycle Park
