I tound out that John and Larry Shaw live about 1/2 mile trom me. They came over alter reading the letter and invited me over to look at the Eso that Larry w1ll be riding in AprU. I have had numerous calls tr om people that are racIng speedway machines. John Shaw has given me a tremendous amount ot lntormation that probably would of taken me months to gather by writing letters and going to the races. ROGER A. BLAKE Fullerton, Cal. On February I, four of us rode the HiJinx Motorcross at Riverside. The motos were prompt, the race well run, the course terrltlc (thanks to Earl Roessler) and most Important, It was funI We ride Desert point runs and anything else that's close as long as it's tun. Having never done well at point runs, we attempt to gain experience and a tew trophies at non-sanctioned events which brings up our gripe. The Shamrocks could not organize a marble game. Whenever anyone asked a question all they could do was curse at you. Alter the tlrst moto In each division almost all the flagmen disappeared, (I suppose they went ott to curse at someone). How District 37 can sanction this kind of event Is beyond me. OON"DANIEL Santa Ana, Cal. BRICKABATS AND ROSES Regarding Dick Wright's completely uncalled-tor editor1al1z1ng in his article about the Four Aces Hare and Hound, quote: " J .N. Roberts doesn't bring his Husky to the desert very often now that he 15 a big mnvie star..... If Dick Wright was as good a reporter as J.N. Is a stuntman (not "movie star"), he'd have so many assignments that he wouldn't have time to stand around in the desert and put J.N. down. In the tuture Mr. Wright, certainly your reader'S would be benefited by less petty bias and more racts, WALT MULCONERY Woodland H1l1s, Cal. Mlat's the beef, Walt? Before you look the editorial scissors to Wright's openIng line It finished with , "but when he does, he is the man to beat." "Roberts has the master's touch and showed his class again by winnlng ...etc." Mlat kind of a put down is that? The point Is that J.N. is unbeatable desPite the fact that his other successful endeavors keep him from riding every single week•••Ed. WORLD'S BEST SPECTATORS Members of the HI-Jinx F.M.C. wish to express our deepest thanks to the wonderful spectators who pitched in with shovels and brute strength to aid cycle riders at our Motocross race at Riverside on Sunday, Feb. 1, 1970. Every club member was assigned work points along the course, taking turns at the most troublesome spots, such as the water trap. But with approxlmately 120 cycles making 10 laps in each of 3 motos, the course got more than a little cut up and It was too much tor one or two men to handle by themselves. ThIs led to enthusiastic cycle' tans taking part by grabbing shovets and helping keep the course as smooth as possible. Others helped by giving the cycles a push up the bank when they bogged down in the ruts. ThanJcs again tor the support and help received trom the world's best sport spectators. HI-JINX FAMILY MOTORCYCLECLUB Riverside, Cal. going toward trophies - your coverage of the event referred to abundant trophies I Without a rider classlfication breakdown, the Novices didn't have much of a chance - In the 100 class only one or two trophies went to Novices. We all had our problems as did many others and we didn't do as well as we think we could have - that's racing. Myson rides In District 37 in the 125cc Novice class and I understand that our regular medical Insurance will not cover injuries received while racing. Myhusband contacted the John Maynard Insurance Company which advertises in Cycle News but they Insure only the bike and not the rider. MRS. C.O. WILLIAMS U;:'Iand, Calif.
