Of course, you should have legs and arms made out of steel rods, a well padded sItdown and no fear of death. ThIs was the -first motocross at Perris and the CMC did a fine job In setting up the course. The rIders alllUced ltand the spectators could watch from anywhere they wanted without having to cross the course which made for a safe day. The rIders even cooperated and the super onthe-spot Rescue 3 had a relaxing after- noon. 250 Junior riders blasts alonc the course. leep Perris Ope. Mike mad. tl)' after try bul Bill kept him rlghl Ilk. th is all day. The 500cc JWl10rs were the first ones to go at It and the battle was on between Bill Clements on a Husky and Mike Cram, Bultaco mounted. The tlrst Moto saw MUce come out on top but he wasn't able to hold of! the challenge by Bill so he ended up second overall to Mike's _ first. These two had their own thing going and let the Matcos do their hassleing behind them. Ralph Izard -and George Graham finally got things squared away and RalPh pIcked up thlrd with George fourth. Mark Blackwell had no trouble w1nn1ng the 500cc Senior Class on his CZ andlet Ron Dugan and his Husky fight of! the Matco attack of thlrd and fourth place Pat DeBenadetti and Gerry Willman. Feets Minert who ended up sixth had some good starts but after that everything seemed to go wrong. In fact In the second Moto he had such a fantastic start that In the words of one of the flagmen "It looked lIke everyone else was tied to a tree." The first flight of the 250cc JWl10rs saw CZ sweep the first three spots. JIm Lewis, Rod Hall and Pete Kolbet were one, two, three, with Rod Hall trying to change things. He took the first Moto but -lIke Mr. MInert had some problems and It was all JIm needed. Husky rider Harold Fletcher was f ourth . Larry Pfutzenreuter after a second place In the first race of the 25Occ's, came back to be the top man whIle E. Norgaard took second and Rob Percuplle was thlrd. Bill Clements who started off lIke gang busters with a win, had some bIg no no-s and had to settle for f ourth . Then came JIm West and Jim Fishback In the 250cc Expert and did they put on a show. Didn't know anybody could sland on the pegs so long or go so far as fast as these two guys did. Jim West took the first Moto going away and almost ran over jickrabblt too boot. You would be hard put to figure out who was putting out the most speed but I have to sIde with the rabblt as he had one thing goIng for hIm and that was fear. JIm Fishback came back In the second go and led West a merry chase until the fourth lap when West got by and It was allover but the shouting as he came hack In the fInal heat and really poured ltto them. Yamahas have proven they not only dominate TT but are making It In Motocross as well. Yamahas won the top four spots In the 125cc JWl10r Class. Dirk Wambold proved his went the fastest with BIll Collins and KeIth Bowser second and third. Doug Morton finished It of! topping Bultaco mounted MarkCrawford. Dom Emler had his AmerIcan Eagle ' f ly1ng and took the 125cc JWl10r Class over the man on the Yamaha DavId Boydstum. I'm still trying to figure out If David'S unique head gear was a new kind of spoIler or a set of rabbIt ears In sympathy for the real thing that JIm West scared out of the bush. Rod MorrIson on his Bultaco was third and Joe Carmello was fourth.
