RICHMOND, CAL . Jan. 18 - Victor Boocock rode off with the giant A-rIders
trophy, feet on the pegs, at the RIchmond
Ramblers annual TrIals on San Franctsco Bay.
Curly-haired VIc was the outstanding
rIder among 102 skilled and not-sosk1lled TrIalsters who twisted twice
over the lo-trap, mud,dy h1llside course.
He footed from his !iUItaco TrIals SpecIal only 17 times. The corwd spontaneously applauded Boocock lIke a tournament golfer who bas sunk a d1ff1cult
putt - when he cleaned a demanding
section in a preclse coordination of
balance and Just-the-rIght speed.
Bultacos dominated the varIety of rnachines that showed UP, except In the
women 's class. There Barbara Robertson centipeded her 120cc Suzuld to victory over three other girls, dropping a
whopping 84 points in the process .
RIchard Hood may have placed in the
A class by w1nn1ng 2nd after Boocock.
But at trophy giving time h1s name was
overlooked and the results list Robert
Tyson unofflc1ally 2nd. A Ramblers Club
• spokesman said that after another addltIon of the scores, Hood's appeared to be
second highest. "If we goofed , we' 11 mall
him atrophy", said the club secretary.
Torrential ra1ns ending the day before
the trIals made for some treacherous
traps. Water, mud and slIck grass made
the goIng hard unless one put a foot
down, and In Trials that loses points.
WIthout a machine properly set up for
TrIals, the rIders barely had a chance to
take home trophies. However, Charles
Kendall trophies 7th, with a motocrossy
Yamaha. Most entrIes dropped their full
100 points, but all had fun and surely
learned somethIng anyway.
