Shishido INDIO, CALIF ., Jan. 11, 1970 - The High Siders M.C . held their first race of the year on Jan. 11 at Indio, Calif., and got off to a good season with a fine field of riders. Jim Francis pulled off a lead that eventually gave him a well earned firs t overall with his big 400 Husky anda four minute advantage over 2nd place r ider John McManus, also on a Husky. The big 400's also took top honors with Joe Mullenea ux pulling up a ti ght 3rd after blowing it on the line. Ri ch Waldren. floppy chain and all, managed a 4th overall on his 350 Honda . The 250 class saw Wayne Matlock come across the line 1st with Clarence Brown following in 2nd place abo ut a footpeg away. In the 125 class, John Owens pick ed UP the lime and maintained a steady, dusty pace to win. John de Wldt did his thing to take 2nd . In the Trail bike class, Dave Feliciano herded his Honda 90 in first with Gary Sult right be hind. The course was limed well. No one got lost except one Yamaha trail bike rider who went across a paved highway and hasn't been heard fr om s ince. The rain that had been threatening all da y fi nally came to settle the dust and end a fine day of racing. Mauger flies to America on Sunday, January 11. for preliminary meetings on the 250cc Kawasaki at Hous ton an d Daytona. It has been e stima ted that he Is on a guarantee of 1500Amerlcandollars for each meeting.
