DECEMBER 6 - This about closes out the raclog season for 1969. Looldng back, the season Just finished bas been a good one with a whole crop of Novices that will be maldng some big thunder wilen 1970 starts. First off, congratulations are in order to those Novices who have traded their grel!D plates tor a yellow (Amateur) one. The first graduate was Bob Sanders, followed closely by the brother-sister act of Richard and Debbie Sanders (who by the way, are no relation to Bob) and Tom WlUte. All of the Novices deserve applause, but some stand-outs deserve special mention. Mean as It Is to categorize people, the following Is what I have done: The "Most Improved" riders are those who have really come on strong from a not- so- strong beginning. They are Bob Greenstreet, Kay KanaId, Chuck Tidwell, Tim Beason, Mark Revels, Jim KlIne, Bill Dobbs, Rob Morrison, Walt Foster, Richard Draudt, Jim McKay and Bruce Yoakam. The "Most Consistent" riders are ltlose who are always In the top stand1ngs and earn their wins the hard way. The list Is a big one but It proves that the caliber of riders Is high and the competition tough. Here they are: Bruce Prior, Wayne WhIsenant, Boyd Mason, Larry Stapleton, Rodney Parsons, Keith MIller, Dennis Creason, Jon and Steve Mudd, Dan and Cralg Johnson, Toby and Tom Stanford, George Gillespie, Davey Davis, Steve Tinsley, Sldp Gallager, Doug Mcintyre, Ron Bourbonnais and Jim Howerton. "The Wlnnlngest" riders have proven by consecutive wins to be the rulers of the roost in their classes so much so that they attained a Perris Amateur rating. Bob KlIne bas to head the list as he bas nine consecutive wins to his credit. Bob Greenstreet, Btl1 Dobbs and Rob Morrison each have four. These guys have had no trouble find1ng a slot In the Amateur-Expert Class and have gone on to prove that they can bold their own. Then there are the dudes who can go like blazes If they hold together long enough, (not only their machines but their bodies). John M. bas falred better than most as only his machine gave him him fits. Mark BaIley on the other hand, along with his brother Lance, spent time in the hospital with various broken bones and then when they started to wall had mechanical problems. Harley Streeter managed to break his collarbone on the same side twice. That's really trying. Bruce Yoakam and Dan Johnson are a lot alike. They don't ever get seriously hurt; they Just fall a lot. Dennis Creason and Steve TInsley hold the honor of havlog the hardest heads. There can only be one" Most OutstandIng Rider" and the Novice who comes to mind came out to Perris as a green, green rider who had never been in competition but Immediately began w1nn1ng no matter what he was riding. Not only Is he a fine rider bUt bas proven himself to be a fine sportsman. Bob KlIne bas got to be the one who bas done the most outstand1ng job this season. Congratulations Bob. Well, Green Platers, I would Uke to re-dedicate this column to you without whom there is no me. I'm looking forward to seeing you all next year and meeting more.
