In add1t1on, there Is a class for dads, and the kids are right in there to pit rotting for them, even if the dads are slower. Just like in Uttle league baseball the mothers give the OK to race. One very enthuslasllc mother of a mini racer from Concord, Cal., brought ber boys down along with seven more junior racers and ten of their Uttle fans. The uPComing season w1ll see at least one point race a month at Saddlehack, with other events held at Dead Man's Point. If a m1n1b1ke Is on the toP of your youngster's Christmas Ust and good old dad comes through, he might look into the program set uP at 8addleback by the Southern Callf. M1n1 Bike and Kart Assoclallon, whose next event will be on the 11th day of January 1970. (Results on page 37) ORANGE, CALIF. Dec. 21, 1969 - The Southern Callf. Mini Bike and KartAssoclallon held Its Nallonal ChamplonsJ11p Scrambles at 8addlehack Park this past weekend. And although the sun did not come out all day, there st1l1 was a warm glow provided by the bright enthusiasm of the kids that bad gotten together to compete in no less than forty events. Only eleven short months have passed since this Assoclallon was formed, and Growth has been Its middle name. The 8addlehack Park owners saw the need to have a sate place to ride for the Uttle guys, who uP to this llme bad to subject themselves to the perils of the faster motorcycles. So, over a year ago the management set aside an area for minibikes only. From the first minibike event with just 19 riders, the number of parllclpants grew to 105 in this year's Nallonal Championship. The S.C.M.B,K.A. bad the foresight, too, not only to set uP Its rules to govern the age of the riders, but the size of the machines that the different ages can ride. The ages and bike sizes start at six years Old, with bikes from 1 to 3 H.P, and run all the way uP to the riP old age of fourteen with 7 H.P. or l25cc mounts. The types of bikes there ranged from Bonanza, Powell, Maverick, Taco, Honda and Zebra, to some that only the owners could name. But all bikes conformed to the size and H.P. specified by the assoclallon. The llme trials got the show under way with each rider getting his chance to setfast llme on this 1/4 mile left and right uP and down hill scrambles course. Then came the first of three motos for each of the ten classes•. One of the rules states that at no llme w1ll they start more than fourteen riders at a llme for safety. This adds a few more events and gives the riders a better chance to earn those all lmportant points. Safety Is rule one; boots and helmets are required as well as good sports- .
