MYERS WRAPS UP CMA MXSEASON~ By Larty Knop Photos by Jack Alin SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH Dec. 7, 1969For the last motocross of the season, CMA members spent mucb time setting up a challenging course. Better than a half incb of wet snow Saturday night and that changed a neat course with a mudbole in it into a neat mudhole with a course on it. A little snow and mud didn't stop 38 hardy riders and a good crowd of spectators. Under the pounding of the knobbies the course changed from soup to loose putty, whicb atleastprovided some traction, and the sun even came out to warm the spectators. The only rider present to master the course however was Frank Myers on bis 360 Husky, and be didn't master it, he beat it into submission. Regular CMA motocrosser Preston Gerber, who bas been Frank's toughest competition all year, was away snowmobiling, so Frank took all three heats going away. Just to make it interesting, in the second beat be spotted the other riders 50 yards when bis Husky bogged down on the line. Frank bas been getting faster and faster lately, as evidenced by bis third place in the sportsman class at the Denver lnterAm. Only three Expert riders brought out their 250Cc macb1nes, so they rode with the Open class and young Pete Crandall brought his 250 Husky into third place bebind Myers and bis older brother Dave. Pete bas been having more success than Dave, but evidently Dave decided that' age sbould be respected and be did it to bis younger brother in convincing fasbion. ~., '"t!! , Jon H.nry caueht up with Warren 'Spencer In the wit snow. Ken. from Big Piney, Wyoming, recently switched from a Greves Challenger to a new 380Cc Griffon. Ken impressed both bimself and the Husky boys with the Griffon power, but he said be hadn't quite adjusted to those funny-looking telescopic forks. A poor finisb in the first beat negated two good thirds so be finisbed out of the tropbies. Tagg Guio, bowever, picked up a wellearned 2nd place in the 100cc class. His legs wouldn't quite reacb the ground it seemed so be just kept them on the pegs and motored through the mud. Will Terry took bome the first place brass on bis little 90 Hodaka. No names, but sympathY to those 100Cc riders who found themselves pusbing their bikes lap after lap across one absolutely flat section. That mud was bad. Insld. a,olllld Carl W.skamp In th. open. H.r~·To·"e.se" ~ At least the 250B class had the power to pull tllrough the mud. They went through sideways and backwards and upside down, but they had the power. K,S, Dickey, on the first American Eagle seen in these parts, looked like he was going to be the one to end Woody Lawhon's winning streak in this class. Woody rides a 175cc Yamaha, and was giving away quite a bit of power to Dickey. Unfortunately in the second heat Dickey cut off a part of the course and got the black flag for bis mistake, so Woody took bome another 1st and Dickey had to settle for 2nd. For all the finesse of the Open class experts and all the eagerness of the 250B class riders, the real crowd grabber was the 125 class. The final score was Warren Spencer - 1 mistake, Jon Henry - none; Spencer 2nd, Henry 1st. (Results on page 17) ~~ ~~ 237. 2277 237· 2277 518 SO. ,1th ST., RICHMOND. CAL.
