The Bay Mare Cycle Assn. bas a well organized race crew. From the time the announcer, Dave Grove, announced over the loudspeaker there will be a rider's meeting at 9: 30 a.m. until the last race of the day, the motocross was a complete success. The 25l-0pen Main Event was the most exciting of the day. Bob Steffan, Jr. on a Maico, held the lead for half the race, then couldn't bold it any longer from Joe Veillon on a Prototype 350cc Malco, who was riding for Cole Bros. Motorcycles. Joe evidently has recovered from bis Westlake wounds. There were a total of six classes. Eacb class rode three races to achieve their points for the day. In the first 0l25cc Nov. class Yamaba took the cake. All on Yamabas were Steve Armstrong, Jay Ferris and Al EgiZi. In the 0-125 Am ./Ex, class young Bobby Ewing, Jr, finished 2nd on a Sachs Joe (448) Veillon wore 0111 Bob S18ffan Jr. Al Eeizl rode his Yamaha to third 125 Novice. whicb was quite good for only completing two races that day. First was Larry Shoemaker on a Yamaba. To keep everytbing fair, starting positions were picked from a box at random, and the entrants lined uP a.ccordingly. The starter, Howard Strowman, made certain everyone bad a fair start. The course bad two sleep bills, stretcb of wasbboard, a. small section of sandwasb, and the everyday normal sharp turns and jumps. About noon, the dust was getting rather beavy. Dave Grove immediately ca.lled for the water truck and In a matter of minutes the dust was down and the track was very slippery and wet In spots, whicb encouraged a lot of action.
