Tony (f) Denlus and Sandy (32) Armstronc take to the air topther as Sandy picks up a second and Tony cets third at Perris. - , ,, PERRIS, CALIF. Nov. 23 - A lIot day with a dry Santa Ana wind made for a long, beautiful, day (and night) of racing but a very dry track. It was the Perris Valley M. C. hosting the District 37 pointS chasers. Jay Lewis seems to rule the 500Cc Class on his little Yamaha although Steve • Herrera tried ,to change things. Poor Steve was caught coming and going, but bested Lawrence Lewis, who was thtrd. Bill Dobbs (Kaw) who was disqualified last week when he won, came oui and did it again to rival Wayne Whlsenant(Yam). Both riders are Perris regulars and know the course well. The lOOCc Am/Ex were run together' with the Amateurs getting the first flag. That was all Doug Mason needed to be first home. Chuck Claydon tried awfully hard' but didn't have enough. Richard Sweaney had some bad luck when he broke down in the second heat and had to hang it uP. Steve Nichols and Ron Powell rounded out the finish. The girls" showed uP this week and gave the crowd some good clean racing. Eulene Long ~d Sandra Lambert each took 'one so the third moto had to tell the tale. Eulene got off the line ftrst with Sandy right behind her and that was the way it stayed, as much as Sandy tried to get under ber, she just couldn't do it. The Powder Puffs are one of the sharpest looking clubs with thetr grouP all in matching leathers and vests. Sharon Wolf and DIane Connolly were thtrd and fourth. The l25cc Novice Class bad a good turnout. Jim Howertory on a Kawasald was the man to beat but nobody did. Steve Hyder was second. When the 125cc AM/Ex went at it Steve Nichols showed them why he will probably be wearing District #1 next season. The chaps did some hassling in the pack and ended uP in a three way tie for second place between Ed Mitchell, Richard Sanders and Gary ScottI Robet Hill and Lloyd Qulntard were third and fourth. Jamey Blunt in his orange and black leathers with a long, orange feather sticking out of his helmet won the l75cc Class running away. Rood Fo~ter, Ossa mounted, was second. . Craig Cove on a Ossa took the l75cc Am/Ex with Bob Saunders' Bultaco right behind. In the 250Cc Novice Class the guys who looked like sure winners turned out to be the also-rans. Dennis Creason and (Continued on page 10) Bob GrHnstrHI won Ihe 350 Novice class. Crash slipped It to all the other hacks. 1erry Dorsch looks like he Is worklnc out some kind of new dllnce step.
