J: Gerber Wins eMA Motocross~ By Allan Lockheed Photos by Jack Alin SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH Nov. 9, 1969For the next to last event of the season, the CMA had the best turn out ever, with 41 riders signing up for the event. The course was only slightly modified since the last motocross was still very rough and about 0.8 miles long. Preston Gerber showed the best form yet this season while winning the Open class, passing everything, everywhere, often in mid-air. Frank Myers and Preston did their thing in Open class with Frank taking home the big one by getting a better start than Gerb in the first and third heats. in the 125cc class Warren Spencer insured that his name would be on the traveling trophy this year by winning the class from Jon Henry. Jon and Warren have put on a continuous show all season long competing for this honor and either one would have deserved the points title. The 250cc A class saw Pete Crandall take his first all in the very first corner of the first heat. Although sporting an interesting set of knobby prints on his jacket he still rode well enough, albeit slower than usual, to get third overall from the last two heats. Young riders continue to be enthusiastic about 100cc class racing, and ten entries were recorded. First and second place trophies went to new riders Tony Jacobs and Robert Cooper. Finn Gurholt got his Green Streak Jr. debugged since last time and took home third. Club member John Reed finally came out with his 90cc Bridgestone racer. He didn't have much luck, though, the seat and throttle fell off before the first lap was complete. Since John was the next obvious item to fall off, he quit. Shirley Knop entered again but lost time in the second heat when hubby had to start her stalled machine. Insult was added to injury when she was given the checkered flag one lap too soon. She still finished fifth overall. Charley Weaver disappointed us by not doing a funny crash. He did run over his own foot, though. He was still true to form, if not style. Our last motocross, God willing, will be December 7. (Results on page 20) Preston Gerber pushes Frank Myers hard in the Open class, but Frank's starts In the lst and 3rd heats gave him the advantage and he came out on top. STEEN'S ANNOUNCES NEW GENERAL MANAGER Kawasaii Dealer Wins Trip To Japan By Elaine Jones Ken and Rita Conover, owners of C&H Kawasaki in Riverside left November 11th for a ten day, all expense paid trip to Japan with a three day stop- over in Honolulu as their award for being one of the top fourteen dealers out of six hundred in the United States. While in Japan the Conovers will tour Kawasaki's bike Plants, ship yardS, and jet air craft factories which shouid keep them pretty busy since Kawasaki is the largest industrial in Japan. C&H is one of the few exclusive Kawasaki Dealers in the United States and the Conovers plan to keep it this way. C&H started out as a joint venture back in 1966 when a friendship of twenty years and a mutual love for bikes led Ken Conover and C.H. Wheat to a reallzation of a dream. Ken took over the business about six months later and has been at the helm ever since. The success of the shop and the reason the Conovers won the trip can be found in their excellent ser.vice. Ken feels he has the best mechanic in the business in Red Streeter who bas been involved with bikes for 44 years starting way back in 1927 when he worked in the Harley Davidson factory. Red's son Harley, is the other reason as he is the service manager and the other half of a blockbuster team. The Conovers are also very active in community affairs and presently are helPing organize a motorcycle program for the boys in Juvenile Hall. T\~ * HIGHEST TRADE-IN 239.N. Anaheim Blvd. Anaheim. Cal.
