seRA.,LlN' AROUND By Maureen Lee We've taken note that the Tucson track Is now open again after the summer layoff. TILls year they are running their races on the tirst Sunday of each month instead ot the second and you know what the fir st Sunday is in our Distrlct•••1t's open. If you want to ride a real fast TT track and have a mind tor a little travelIng, scoot on over. The "natives" are definitely ftlendly and It's one heck of a neat track to ride. Gear high duckles, or you'll be peaking out with more room than you can use. The Grlpsters again took another step to help District clubs at their Eislnore race by allowing club members with properly made out membership cards from their respective clubs to ride for a dollar less. Another little shot in the arm for club membt:rs who all too often .teel their efforts to keep District 37 going aren't appreciated. So we'll add the Grlpsters name for a tip of the hel- met to the Ust the Lost Angels are on. They are not SllPporting un- sanctioned events. Seems lately we're always caught uP in a discussion of people riding the wrong size bikes in the wrong classes and here, we go again. The distaff side of the sport Is currently having their troubles and are considering trying again to have the Powder put! class opened uP to 125cc's. The first time they asked the Competition Committee the Committee said no. Personally, we agree. The Powder Puff class has slipped a bit lately and they are not ge,ttIng the novices out that they should and we teel It just could be because that class runs Experts, Amateurs and Novices together and a girl who wants to start riding and watches the races a tew weeks In a row sees the same number plates in the front every time. That's a discouragement right there although Debbie Sanders has proved that a novice can be more than a match for the yellow and white platers. Still, a lot of girls won't give It a bash because they feel they're out-classed right from the be- San Diego Yamaha Dealer Wins Trip lo Japan Photos and Story by BID Harmer Chuck and Agnes Winters, owners of Lucky Yamaha in the Lemon Grove suburb of San Diego received official notice on September 22nd that their motorcycle agency had placed among the top 20 was leading the point race when he rebroke his leg In mid season. Chuckplans to sponsor a San Diego Novice rider at the Ascot T,T races next season. Another reason that Chuck Is popular with the racing fraternity is that he sponsors a sweepstakes at every Dlst. 38 quit completely. ' The District Powder Putt class was set at 100cc's and we've noticed that other Districts are the same way. following DIstrict 37. A girl can still belong to the Powder Put! Association and ride a bigger bike If she wishes but she wID have to ride with the men. We feel that bringing the 125's into the class may increase the entries for a while but will not benefit anything In the long run. We always held out for a separate scoring system for the women. We don't ride with the men yet our plates carry the same colors and numbers but the Idea hasn't met with success. To get back to riding out of class, our grapevines tell us that this Is going to be a gas at Corriganville. 125's have been running happily in the desert In the trail bike class, and some are ridden by girls. Well, as we've always said, If you ain't got no pride. you ain't, but we'd better not catch any of them at CorrlganvIDe in the Powder Putf. That's 10Occ's ladies, and that's what YOU'd better be riding. There were clouds last year over a COuPle of bikes; this year 1t's liable to be a full rainstorm. It only takes a few minutes to check out a two- stroke so let's not do any cherry picking. The desert glris already are more than a match for the scramblers but throwing a 125 in there as well is just too muchl And naturally, the same thing goes in the men's divisions.
