But tought luck seemed to follow these two First Ron missed a shift in the tight horseshoe turn due to a bent "Iron Boot" banging on the shifting lever, which caused him to go down in the heat. Joe ran out of gas in the last lasp of the main. Joe took the heat race, but Ron made the winner's circle in the main. Victory in tiiis race assured Ron of the District Number One plate for his Yamaha next season - quite a feat for this fourteen year old, riding out of Earl Wlpf's Shafter Yamaha ShOP.
